Legal Awareness Program Held at Damoh District Jail
In compliance with the directives of the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, a significant legal awareness program was organized at the Damoh District Jail on October 14, 2026. The primary objective of this initiative was to educate the inmates detained in the jail about their legal rights and responsibilities.
The program was presided over by Chief Judicial Magistrate and Chairman, Subhash Solanki. During his address, Chief Judicial Magistrate Solanki assured the inmates that their fundamental rights remain protected despite their incarceration. He specifically emphasized the right to religious freedom, stating that every inmate has the complete liberty to practice their religion as per jail rules.
Inmates can perform worship, prayers, or religious observances according to their faith and may also keep religious texts with them.
Judge Solanki further urged the inmates to learn from their current circumstances and pledge to stay away from criminal activities in the future.
Legal Aid and De-addiction Counseling
Civil Judge Senior Division, Ushakanta Krishan, advised inmates affected by drug addiction to abstain from this vice even after their release from jail. She also provided guidance for inmates wishing to file legal appeals after being convicted by the court. Such inmates can apply to the Legal Aid Office through the Jailer, ensuring their appeals are submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
Information on Legal Aid Schemes
Legal Aid Officer, Rajneesh Chaurasia, informed the assembled inmates about the Free Legal Aid Scheme, the Under-Trial Review Committee, and the functioning of Lok Adalats. He elaborated on the benefits and procedures associated with these schemes.
At the conclusion of the program, various questions posed by the inmates were addressed. Jail Superintendent M.L. Patel expressed his gratitude for the successful organization of the event. Such initiatives are instrumental in motivating inmates to reintegrate into mainstream society and refrain from re-offending.
