Youth Flees with Gold Ring After Tricking Jewelry Merchant in Bareilly
The Cliff News | Bareilly | October 5, 2026 In a meticulously planned incident in the Fatehganj Paschimi town of Bareilly on Monday morning, an unknown youth targeted a jewelry merchant, escaping with a gold ring from the shop.
The incident occurred at Monica Jewelers, located in the main market, while the merchant, Prahlad Agarwal, was present with his son Ankit. The accused youth entered the shop under the pretext of purchasing a gold ring. The incident reportedly took place around 11 AM.
The accused youth asked Prahlad Agarwal to show him a gold ring. During this time, Ankit received a phone call and left for home. Seeing Prahlad alone in the shop, the accused youth put on the ring and swiftly exited the store, disappearing into the narrow lanes. The merchant raised an alarm, but people were unable to chase the culprit.
Merchant Expresses Concern Over Market Security
The accused youth had entered the shop on the pretext of viewing a gold ring. Prahlad Agarwal, a resident of Mohalla Sahukara, owns the shop named Monica Jewelers, located near Gangwar Medical Store. Around 11 AM, Prahlad was at the shop with his son Ankit when an unidentified youth arrived and expressed a desire to buy a gold ring. The accused carried out the incident while the merchant was showing him the rings.
This incident has become a cause for concern not only for the merchant but for the entire market, as it highlights how incidents can be executed in a well-planned manner. Following the incident, the head of the trade union, Ashish Agarwal, along with other traders, visited the spot and expressed their anger. He met with CO Highway, Devesh Singh, and demanded the installation of a police picket in the market and the immediate arrest of the accused.
Traders expressed concern over their safety and expect prompt action from the administration. They stated that such incidents break the morale of traders and also raise concerns about the security of their businesses. Increased police presence in the market can curb such crimes.
Police Launch Search Based on CCTV Footage
Station House Officer Praveen Kumar stated that a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victimized merchant, Prahlad Agarwal. The police are examining the footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the shop to identify and apprehend the accused.
Neeraj Goyal, Naresh Airan, Deepak Agarwal, Akhilesh Agarwal, Raj Kapoor Gupta, and several other local traders and residents were present in protest against this incident. The police claim that the accused will be arrested soon, and the stolen jewelry will be recovered. Based on information obtained from the footage, the police are also raiding potential hideouts.
