The Cliff News | Bhopal | October 7, 2026. The Madhya Pradesh Police have launched a comprehensive campaign to curb the illegal drug trade. In a series of swift actions over the past week, approximately ₹1.62 crore worth of illegal narcotics and other assets have been confiscated across the state.
During this period, police uncovered the smuggling, transportation, and cultivation of banned substances such as cannabis, brown sugar, smack, opium, and dodachura in various districts. Several suspects have also been arrested in connection with these operations. This action underscores the Madhya Pradesh Police's commitment to making the state drug-free, with a goal to strike effectively at every level of the drug trade: source, transportation, supply, and trafficking networks.
Large-Scale Seizures Across Districts
According to information received from the Police Headquarters, the details of these operations in various districts of the state are as follows:
- Ratlam: In a significant success in the Sarvan police station area, police unearthed illegal cannabis cultivation on government land. A total of 2,948 green cannabis plants, weighing 724 kilograms, were seized, grown amidst maize and cotton crops. The estimated value of this cannabis is ₹70 lakh.
- Vidisha: District police confiscated assets totaling over ₹31.81 lakh in operations conducted last week. In one instance, police arrested two suspects with 20 grams of brown sugar, seizing assets including the drugs and a motorcycle worth approximately ₹2.50 lakh. Under 'Operation Clean Sweep', a brown sugar smuggling network was busted, leading to the arrest of six individuals. They were found with 38.56 grams of brown sugar, an EcoSport car, a motorcycle, and five mobile phones, valued at around ₹16.50 lakh. Additionally, separate operations by Kotwali and Civil Line police led to the arrest of 12 other individuals and the seizure of over ₹12.81 lakh worth of assets, including 80 grams of brown sugar and vehicles.
- Dhar: Police conducted simultaneous raids on three farms in the village of Ukala in the Manawar area. A total of 229 green cannabis plants, weighing approximately 170 kilograms and valued at an estimated ₹20 lakh, were seized.
Use of Drones and Special Operations
- Dewas: Under 'Operation Prahar', Sonkutch police used drones to detect illegal cannabis cultivation. With the help of the drone, 354 cannabis plants weighing 700 kilograms and estimated at ₹15 lakh were seized.
- Rajgarh: Under 'Operation Shuddhi', the Kotwali police and a special team conducted a joint operation, seizing 50.860 kilograms of illegal cannabis and a car. Assets worth approximately ₹11 lakh were confiscated, and one accused was arrested.
- Mandsaur: Continuous action against narcotic substances is ongoing in the district. Sitamau police seized 2.978 kg of illegal opium and a motorcycle, valued at approximately ₹4.90 lakh. Roonija police outpost, under Suwasra police station, seized 62.900 kg of illegal dodachura, two mobile phones, and a car, worth around ₹1.55 lakh. Garoth police station busted a cannabis cultivation operation in an orange orchard, seizing 107 green cannabis plants and a mobile phone, valued at approximately ₹1.10 lakh. In total, operations in Mandsaur district resulted in the confiscation of assets worth about ₹7.55 lakh.
Crackdown on Inter-State Smugglers
- Guna: Mrigwas police station arrested two inter-state smugglers. They were found with 20.61 grams of smack and a motorcycle used for smuggling, with a total value of approximately ₹3.10 lakh.
- Chhindwara: Kotwali, Kundipura, and Dehat police conducted a joint operation, arresting five individuals and seizing 10.046 kg of illegal cannabis, estimated at ₹1.77 lakh. Cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, and a thorough investigation into the source and supply network of the cannabis is underway.
- Narsinghpur: In the Kareli police station area, police seized 12.7 grams of illegal smack from an accused, valued at approximately ₹1.20 lakh. The accused has been arrested.
- Shivpuri: Kotwali police seized 5.5 kg of cannabis and a motorcycle, with a total value of about ₹1.25 lakh.
This intensive campaign by the Madhya Pradesh Police is ongoing, with all possible efforts being made to fulfill their commitment to making the state drug-free.
