Attack in the Strait of Hormuz

A Panama-flagged commercial vessel, the 'MT On Peace', was struck by a projectile while transiting the international shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, near the coast of Oman. The attack resulted in injuries to 12 of the 19 crew members on board, including 11 Indian nationals.

Crew Evacuated and Treated

Following the attack, all injured crew members were safely evacuated with the assistance of Omani authorities. They have been admitted to the city of Khasab in Oman, where their treatment is ongoing. The incident raises serious concerns regarding maritime security in the region.

Maritime Security Concerns

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime chokepoint connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, playing a crucial role in global oil trade. In recent weeks, there has been an observed increase in attacks targeting commercial vessels in this area, casting a shadow of doubt over the safety of international maritime traffic.

India's Strong Condemnation

India has issued a strong condemnation of the attack. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has called for an immediate cessation of such attacks on commercial ships, sailors, and civilian infrastructure. India has emphasized the importance of secure, free, and uninterrupted maritime passage in the region and urged relevant parties to refrain from such activities.
