Escape and Rearrest
A previously incarcerated prisoner, MAMTA, who was carrying a Rs 25,000 bounty, has been arrested by Kotwali police after being on the run for a month and a half. The woman had been admitted to the district hospital for medical treatment, from where she planned her escape using a burqa with the help of her sons.
According to information, MAMTA was admitted to the district hospital from Central Jail-2 on September 2, 2026, due to health-related issues. Two female police constables, Nutan Sisodiya and Rinki, were deployed for her security at the hospital. During this time, around 6:35 PM, the woman feigned a need to use the bathroom and fled wearing a burqa.
Later police investigations revealed that her sons, Shav and Vishal, had provided her with the burqa to execute the entire escape plan. The Kotwali police had been continuously searching for MAMTA since her escape, and a bounty of Rs 25,000 was subsequently announced for her capture. She was reportedly planning to leave the city and hide.
Apprehension and Confession
Finally, on the night of October 17, around 1:40 AM, police received a tip-off from an informant that MAMTA was hiding behind a municipal corporation blue container near the Damo Chauraha passenger shed. Upon receiving the information, the Kotwali police immediately cordoned off the area and apprehended her.
During interrogation after her arrest, MAMTA confessed to her crime. She stated that she did not wish to return to jail, which is why she devised this entire escape plan from the hospital with her sons.
Legal Proceedings
The police have registered a case against her at the Kotwali police station for escaping from police custody. Additionally, a case was already registered against her at the Faridpur police station under the POCSO Act and other serious sections.
The police team, formed under the leadership of Kotwali Station House Officer Rajiv Kumar Singh, has begun the process of presenting the arrested prisoner, MAMTA, before the court. The police are continuing with further legal proceedings in this matter, and the search for her sons, who aided in her escape, is ongoing.
