Civic Neglect Fuels Community Action in Guna

Amidst claims of development in Guna city, a case has emerged that raises serious questions about the functioning of the government machinery. Residents of the Gopalpura area have completed the construction of a crucial culvert over a canal by raising funds themselves, after their consistent demands over three years went unheeded.

This culvert connects Bhagatsingh Colony and Gopalpura, and its absence had caused immense hardship to local people. According to locals, they had been repeatedly appealing for the construction of a drain and culvert, from the municipal office to the Chief Minister's helpline, for the past three years. Despite contacting officials multiple times and visiting offices, their issues were ignored.

Public Participation Drives Infrastructure Development

Seeing no hope for government assistance, the residents of Gopalpura and Bhagatsingh Colony finally decided to collectively raise funds. This example of development driven by public cooperation saw all citizens contributing through voluntary labor and financial support to make the construction of this culvert possible.

The newly built culvert is situated over the old canal between Bhagatsingh Colony and Gopalpura. This route serves as an important passage not only for local residents but also for loading vehicles. Notably, this route functions as a significant alternative during traffic jams on the main roads.

Administration's Indifference Sparks Discontent

The project witnessed complete neglect from the local administration, which never paid attention to the need for this vital infrastructure. This is not the first time that citizens in Guna have undertaken such development works at their own expense. Previously, residents of Lushan Bagicha and Phulwari Colony had also carried out development work in their areas through public cooperation.

This incident has created deep dissatisfaction and anger among local citizens towards the administration.
