Abhishek Bachchan Breaks Silence on Separation Rumours with Aishwarya Rai: “Negative News Sells”

After over a year of persistent rumours about a possible separation from wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, actor Abhishek Bachchan has finally addressed the media speculation and online trolling that has surrounded his personal life. While the couple has remained silent all this time, Abhishek recently opened up in an Etimes interview about the toll that misinformation and negativity take on public figures and their families.

Abhishek and Aishwarya, who tied the knot in 2007 and share a 13-year-old daughter Aaradhya, have co-starred in several films including Guru, Dhoom 2, and Kuch Naa Kaho. Despite widespread speculation about marital discord, they have chosen not to publicly address their relationship—until now.

“Negative News Sells”

Speaking candidly, Abhishek explained why he chooses not to issue clarifications on rumours:

“Even if I clarify something, people will turn it around. Because negative news sells. You’re not me. You don’t live my life.”

He added that while such talk once didn’t affect him, things have changed now that he has a family:

“Today, I have a family, and it’s very upsetting.”

On Social Media Trolling

Abhishek also shared how damaging online trolling can be. He recalled a particularly cruel comment that prompted his friend, actor Sikandar Kher, to respond fiercely—publicly posting Abhishek’s address and challenging the troll to repeat the insult face-to-face.

“It’s so convenient to sit anonymously behind a computer screen and write the nastiest things… No matter how thick-skinned someone is, it affects them.”

Challenging trolls directly, he said:

“If you’re going to say it on the internet, I dare you to come say it to my face. If someone does, at least I’ll respect that they have conviction.”

Upcoming Film: Kaalidhar Laapata

On the work front, Abhishek Bachchan is gearing up for the release of his next film, Kaalidhar Laapata, a thriller directed by Madhumita. Also starring Daivik Bhagela and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, the film is set to premiere on ZEE5 on July 4, 2025.

Despite the media glare and speculation, Abhishek’s latest statements show a commitment to protecting his family’s dignity and focusing on work, while calling out the toxic culture of online hate.
