Umar Ansari, Son of Late Mukhtar Ansari, Arrested in Lucknow Over Forgery Case

Umar Ansari, the younger son of deceased gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested late Sunday night by Ghazipur police from the Darul Shafa area in Lucknow. The arrest took place at an MLA residence, following a criminal case registered in Ghazipur for alleged property forgery.

Police officials said Umar had attempted to fraudulently reclaim a property previously seized under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. The property had been attached under Section 14(1) of the Act due to its links with the criminal network once headed by Mukhtar Ansari, who led the now-banned IS-191 gang.

Investigators allege that Umar submitted forged court documents—including fake signatures of his mother, Afsa Ansari—in a petition seeking release of the property. Notably, Afsa is also a wanted accused in several cases and carries a reward of ₹50,000.

Upon discovery of the alleged forgery, FIR number 245/2025 was registered at Muhammadabad Police Station under sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Umar was taken into custody and transported to Ghazipur for further legal action. This marks the sixth criminal case registered against him, with previous charges including cheating, forgery, poll code violations, and destruction of public property.

Meanwhile, his elder brother Abbas Ansari, a former MLA from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), was sentenced to two years in jail in May 2025 for a 2022 speech allegedly threatening government officials. Although he was later granted bail, he was disqualified from the UP Assembly. Abbas also faces eight other criminal cases and was previously caught with his wife and foreign currency in Chitrakoot jail.
