Amit Jani, producer of Udaipur Files, has claimed he is receiving repeated death threats just a day after the film’s nationwide release on August 8.
In a social media post on August 9, Jani alleged that calls from the number +971566707310 threatened to “blow him up with a bomb” or “shoot him,” along with verbal abuse. The caller reportedly identified himself as Tabrej from Bihar. Jani urged authorities to register a case and arrest the suspect.
The threats prompted the Central government to grant him ‘Y’-category security, providing an 8–11 member team for his protection in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, following Supreme Court permission for him to seek police protection.
Udaipur Files, starring Vijay Raaz and directed by Bharat S Shrinate and Jayant Sinha, is based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan — a killing that was filmed, circulated online, and sparked national outrage over radicalisation. The accused, Mohammad Riaz Attari and Ghaus Mohammad, are facing trial under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a special NIA court in Jaipur.
The film, originally slated for July 11, faced delays due to censorship and legal hurdles before the Delhi High Court cleared it for an August release.
