Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit France on a three-day tour starting Monday, where he will co-chair the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The visit aims to strengthen strategic ties, bolster defence cooperation, and expand trade partnerships.
Key Highlights of the Visit
- February 12: PM Modi and President Macron will co-chair the Global AI Summit, pushing for tech sovereignty. Leaders such as US Vice President J.D. Vance, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are expected to attend.
- Bilateral Talks: Modi and Macron will address the India-France CEOs Forum and hold discussions on expanding economic and defence collaboration.
- Tribute to Indian Soldiers: The leaders will visit a World War I war cemetery to honor Indian soldiers’ sacrifices.
- Consulate Inauguration: Modi and Macron will jointly inaugurate the Consulate General of India in Marseille and visit Kadash, the site of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).
- Nuclear & Trade Agreements: India and France are expected to announce agreements on small modular reactors, boosting civil nuclear cooperation. A Triangular Development Cooperation Initiative will also be launched.
Additionally, 2026 will be declared the “India-France Innovation Year,” with an official logo launch. After his France visit, PM Modi will travel to the US for further engagements.
