Mumbai: Troubles continue to mount for YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as ‘BeerBiceps,’ as the Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry into his controversial remarks. On Friday, the state’s cultural department, led by Minister Ashish Shelar, was directed to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter following widespread complaints.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia made crass remarks about parents and sex during his appearance as a judge on comedian Samay Raina’s now-deleted YouTube show, India’s Got Latent. The show has since been criticized for its vulgar content, leading to public outrage and multiple complaints. Additionally, concerns have been raised about other similar online shows operating without proper permissions, prompting the government to widen its probe.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Minister Ashish Shelar, was convened to discuss the issue. Following deliberations, Shelar ordered a thorough investigation into the allegations. The move signals the government’s intent to regulate online content that is deemed inappropriate or offensive.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have summoned Ranveer Allahbadia for questioning as part of their probe into the matter. He was asked to appear at the Khar police station on Thursday but failed to do so. A second summons was issued for Friday, but when police teams from Mumbai and Assam visited his Versova residence, they found the flat locked.
An official confirmed that Allahbadia had requested for his statement to be recorded at his residence, but his plea was denied by the authorities. With the investigation intensifying, the YouTuber has been asked to appear before the police on Saturday. The case continues to draw significant public and media attention, adding to the mounting troubles for the popular content creator.
