CVC Orders Probe Into Alleged Misuse of Funds for Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’; Delhi CMO Handle Controversy Erupts

New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has ordered a detailed probe into the alleged misuse of public funds for lavish renovations at 6 Flagstaff Bungalow, the former official residence of ex-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has been tasked with investigating claims that building norms were violated to construct the opulent mansion, dubbed ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ spanning 40,000 square yards (8 acres).

The inquiry was initiated following a complaint by BJP leader Vijender Gupta, who alleged unauthorized construction and financial irregularities in the project. According to Gupta, government-owned properties—including Plot Nos. 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road, as well as two bungalows (8-A & 8-B, Flag Staff Road)—were demolished and merged into the new structure without proper approvals. The CVC registered the case on October 16, 2024, and forwarded it to the CPWD for scrutiny in November. A factual report submitted by the CPWD’s Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in December led to the CVC’s decision to launch a full-scale investigation on February 13.

Meanwhile, another controversy has erupted over the renaming of the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) social media handle on X (formerly Twitter). The Delhi government has written to the platform, requesting the restoration of the official “@CMODelhi” handle, which was allegedly renamed “@KejriwalAtWork” under instructions from AAP leaders. The BJP has accused AAP of hijacking the government account and misusing it for personal promotion.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has urged Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to intervene, alleging that acting CM Atishi and IT department officials facilitated the unauthorized renaming of the account. The Delhi government has formally asked X to restore the official handle and deactivate any unauthorized accounts, citing concerns about potential misuse.

With both financial and digital governance issues under scrutiny, the political storm surrounding the former Delhi CM’s tenure continues to escalate.
