AAP leader and former Delhi minister Atishi has accused the BJP of breaking its election promises, claiming the party has “made up its mind to cheat the people of Delhi.” In a self-recorded video, she criticized the BJP for failing to pass the much-publicized scheme that promised ₹2,500 per month to women in the national capital.
Atishi pointed out that the BJP had assured voters that the scheme would be approved in its first cabinet meeting. However, despite Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her ministers taking the oath and convening their first cabinet meeting at 7 p.m., the scheme was not passed. “All the women of Delhi were expecting that scheme to be passed… The first day itself, BJP started breaking their promises,” she said.
Delhi Cabinet’s First Decisions
Meanwhile, newly appointed Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired her first cabinet meeting and made key announcements, including the implementation of the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme with an additional ₹5 lakh top-up. She also pledged to present 14 pending CAG reports in the first sitting of the Assembly, a move that targets the previous AAP government for alleged delays in accountability.
During a press conference, Ms. Gupta reiterated that her government would follow its own agenda and not be dictated by the opposition. When questioned about Atishi’s remarks on the ₹2,500 scheme, she firmly responded, “It’s our government; the agenda will be ours. Let us work. She doesn’t need to tell us everything; she has done what she had to while in power.”
The BJP government’s decision to prioritize Ayushman Bharat and CAG reports over the promised women’s financial assistance scheme has sparked a political controversy, setting the stage for further confrontations between the ruling party and the opposition in Delhi.
