The Delhi government is set to roll out the Mahila Samriddhi Scheme, offering ₹2,500 per month to eligible women from economically weaker sections. The scheme, a key election promise of the BJP in Delhi, will be launched on March 8, International Women’s Day.
Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme
Women meeting the following conditions will be eligible for the grant:
✔️ Household income below ₹3 lakh per year
✔️ Aged between 18 and 60 years
✔️ Non-taxpayers
✔️ Not employed in government jobs
✔️ Not receiving any other government financial assistance
Government sources estimate that 15-20 lakh women in Delhi will qualify for the scheme.
Implementation and Registration Process
The Delhi government is developing an online portal for registrations, supported by a verification system to check eligibility. Key aspects include:
🔹 Data Integration: The government will use records from the Election Commission, Food and Civil Supplies Department, and Income Tax Department to verify applicants.
🔹 Aadhaar Linking: Applications will be linked to Aadhaar, ensuring automatic verification of age, family income, and government scheme benefits.
🔹 Bank Account Requirement: Applicants must provide Aadhaar-linked bank account details for direct benefit transfers.
Launch Event & Future Funding
The scheme will be officially launched at Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi, where the Chief Minister and ministers will distribute the first payments to selected eligible women. The current budget allocation is from the ₹1,000 crore fund set aside by the previous AAP government. Additional funds will be allocated in the next financial year to expand the scheme.
With 72 lakh women voters in Delhi, and 20 lakh expected to qualify, the scheme aims to provide direct financial relief to women from low-income households.
