Mumbai-New York Flight AI119 Forced to Turn Back
An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was forced to return mid-air on March 10, 2025, after a potential security threat was detected onboard. The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, operating as AI119, landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 10:25 am.
Bomb Threat Suspected
According to sources, a bomb threat was reported after a note was found in one of the plane’s lavatories, as per news agency PTI. Security agencies are currently inspecting the aircraft, but no further details about the nature of the threat have been disclosed.
Air India’s Official Statement
Air India confirmed the incident, stating that all necessary protocols were followed before deciding to return to Mumbai. “A potential security threat was detected mid-flight on AI119 operating Mumbai-New York (JFK) today, 10 March 2025. After following the necessary protocols, the flight air-returned to Mumbai, in the interest of the safety and security of all on board. The flight landed safely back in Mumbai at 1025 Hrs (local time). The aircraft is undergoing mandatory checks by security agencies, and Air India is extending its full cooperation to the authorities,” an Air India spokesperson said.
Rescheduled Flight and Passenger Assistance
The flight has now been rescheduled to depart at 5 am on March 11. All 322 passengers, including 19 crew members, have been provided with hotel accommodation, meals, and other necessary assistance, the airline confirmed.
