Authorities in Andhra Pradesh are on alert as a low-pressure area has formed over the South Andaman Sea and its adjoining areas. This system is predicted to strengthen into a well-marked low-pressure area over the Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands within the next 24 hours, according to Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).
The system's intensification is expected to continue, potentially developing into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea by Saturday. This weather development is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to isolated locations across coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.
River Alert Issued
In anticipation of the potential rainfall, the APSDMA has advised residents in low-lying areas along the Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers to remain vigilant. Both rivers are currently experiencing strong currents due to recent heavy rainfall.
The public has been strongly cautioned against attempting to cross overflowing canals and streams, and swimming in rivers has been discouraged due to safety concerns. These warnings highlight the preparedness measures being taken by the authorities to mitigate any risks associated with the impending weather system.
Rainfall Forecast
The APSDMA released a four-day forecast on Thursday, outlining the expected weather patterns. On Friday, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas within the Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, and Guntur districts. Other districts are expected to experience scattered showers.
The forecast for Saturday indicates isolated light to moderate rainfall in Vizianagaram, Krishna, Nandyal, and Annamayya districts. Scattered showers are also predicted for the remaining districts across the state.
Widespread Coastal Rainfall Expected
By Sunday, the weather system is projected to bring widespread rainfall activity across all coastal districts. Specific areas like Konaseema, East Godavari, and West Godavari districts are likely to experience heavy rain at some locations.
Additionally, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for isolated places in districts including Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Eluru, and Krishna. The detailed forecasting aims to provide timely information for effective disaster management and public safety measures.
