In a landmark verdict, the Meerut court has sentenced Muskan and Sahil to life imprisonment in the chilling 'Blue Drum murder case'. The decision brings a close to a nearly 19-month-long investigation into the brutal murder of Saurabh Rajput, whose dismembered body was found concealed in a cement-filled blue drum.
The sentencing follows the duo's conviction in the case, which had sent shockwaves across the nation. The court pronounced the sentence after hearing arguments from both the prosecution, which sought the death penalty, and the defense, which pleaded for a minimum sentence.
The Sentencing Hearing
The courtroom was abuzz with anticipation as Judge Arvind Mishra presided over the sentencing proceedings. Both Muskan and Sahil, who were presented before the court via video conferencing from the district jail, were given an opportunity to speak. However, both remained silent when asked if they had anything to say.
The prosecution had strongly argued for the death penalty, labelling the crime as 'rarest of rare'. They presented evidence and witness testimonies to highlight the premeditated nature of the murder and the subsequent attempt to conceal the body. The prosecution emphasized that the accused did not stop at murder but also engaged in acts aimed at obstructing justice.
Conversely, the defense counsel pleaded for a lenient sentence, citing circumstances that might warrant lesser punishment. The court meticulously reviewed all evidence and arguments before reaching its final decision.
Victim's Family Seeks Justice
The family of the victim, Saurabh Rajput, was present in court, keenly awaiting the verdict. Saurabh's mother, Renu Devi, and his brother, Rahul, had consistently demanded capital punishment for the accused, expressing their deep-seated pain and desire for justice. They had previously appealed to the judiciary for the strictest possible punishment, underscoring the gravity of the crime.
"After my son Saurabh's murder, my family made every effort to get justice. I am grateful to the administration and everyone who supported us in this case. I have full hope that based on the testimonies and other evidence, we will get justice," Saurabh's mother had stated.
The family's presence in court during the sentencing underscored their unwavering pursuit of justice for Saurabh.
Background of the Case
The horrific incident occurred on March 4, 2025, in the Brahmupuri area of Meerut. Saurabh Rajput was allegedly murdered, and his body was dismembered before being hidden in a blue drum filled with cement. The discovery of the body led to the arrest of Muskan and Sahil, who were subsequently investigated for the crime.
The house where the crime took place, located in a narrow lane, has remained shut since the incident, adding to the grim atmosphere surrounding the case. The owner of the property, Om Pal Singh, had reportedly stated that his sons live abroad and he himself does not reside there.
Life in Jail for the Convicts
Following their conviction, significant changes are expected in the living conditions of Muskan and Sahil within the jail premises. According to Jail Superintendent Dr. Viresh Raj Sharma, both convicts will now be subject to jail regulations, including wearing prescribed uniforms and performing assigned tasks as per the jail manual.
Muskan, who has a 10-month-old daughter residing with her in jail, had expressed concerns about her child's future. Jail authorities informed her that children can stay with their mothers until the age of six, adhering to prison rules. She also conveyed a desire to meet her daughter, who is reportedly staying outside, and to write letters. Jail staff are facilitating communication channels while ensuring security checks.
Jail Superintendent Sharma noted a change in Muskan's behaviour post-conviction. She has become more withdrawn, preferring solitude and spending time in prayer, a shift from her previous interactions with other inmates. Surveillance is being maintained through jail staff as CCTV cameras are not installed in the women's barracks.
Both convicts have reportedly been experiencing distress since their conviction, with neither reportedly sleeping well nor eating adequately in the days leading up to the sentencing. Sahil, when questioned by the judge via video conference about any prior offenses, denied any involvement in previous crimes and declined to make any statement regarding his sentencing.

The 'Blue Drum murder case' garnered widespread national attention due to its gruesome nature. The sentencing today marks a significant turning point in this high-profile investigation. The court's decision is being closely watched as a measure of justice for the victim and his family, and as a precedent for similar heinous crimes.
