Mohan Bhagwat's Message: Call for Nation Building Through Unity, Security, and Panch Parivartan
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized national unity, social harmony, security, and positive societal change on Vijayadashami.

Call for Nation Building
On the occasion of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) foundation day and Vijayadashami in Nagpur, Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat addressed the nation. He underscored the need for national unity, social harmony, security, and positive societal transformation, while also highlighting concerns over foreign interference, attempts at power shifts, challenges facing the youth, and the preservation of Indian social values.
Dr. Bhagwat clarified that lasting solutions to the nation's problems do not stem from merely changing governments but from bringing about positive behavioural changes in citizens. He stressed the critical importance of remaining vigilant against activities that undermine India's unity and social stability, referencing recent instances of political and social instability in countries like France, Albania, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
Role and Limits of People's Movements in Democracy
Acknowledging the significance of people's movements in a democracy for addressing social issues, Dr. Bhagwat emphasized that their objective should be problem resolution, not the creation of division and distrust. He appealed to political leadership, administration, and activists to adhere to the constitution, laws, and the decorum of public life, warning that any dissent exploited for political gain or social division would be detrimental to national unity.
Emphasis on 'Panch Parivartan' Concept
To foster positive and lasting societal change, Dr. Bhagwat placed special importance on the 'Panch Parivartan' (Five Transformations) concept proposed by the Sangh. This framework focuses on five key areas: social harmony, family enlightenment, environmental protection, self-awareness and self-reliance (Swadeshi), and the fulfillment of civic duties. He urged the adoption of these principles in daily life, rather than confining them to theoretical discussions.
- Social Harmony: Reducing societal divisions based on caste, language, region, and fostering mutual respect and camaraderie.
- Family Enlightenment: Emphasizing family dialogue, the importance of sanskaras (values), personal responsibility, and strengthening relationships.
- Environmental Protection: Highlighting responsible behaviour towards nature and the prudent use of resources.
- Self-Awareness (Swa-Bodha): Recognizing and taking pride in India's cultural identity, glorious history, and rich traditions.
- Self-Reliance (Swadeshi): Promoting domestically produced goods, local manufacturing, and economic independence.
- Civic Duties: Stressing adherence to law, fulfilling responsibilities, and responsible conduct in public life.
National Unity and Diversity as Strength
Addressing national unity, Dr. Bhagwat described India's immense diversity as its greatest strength, encompassing various religions, languages, communities, culinary traditions, and cultural beliefs. He advocated for strengthening the shared national spirit, stressing that respect for diversity and mutual harmony are indispensable for the nation's integrity and fostering deep emotional connections and unwavering trust among different societal segments.
Challenges and Solutions for Youth
Dr. Bhagwat also focused on youth-related issues, urging the younger generation to discern right from wrong, adopt responsible behaviour, and actively contribute to solving social challenges. He highlighted the collective responsibility of families, society, and institutions in combating issues like rising drug abuse. He also expressed concern over the quality of content on digital and OTT platforms, suggesting the need for appropriate regulation, linking these issues to character building and fostering a positive social environment.
Upcoming Social Priorities of the Sangh
Dr. Bhagwat's address, coinciding with the culmination of the Sangh's centenary celebrations, outlined the organization's future social priorities and national vision, emphasizing service, nation-building, self-reliance, and strengthening social unity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his wishes, acknowledging the Sangh's significant contributions in these areas.
In essence, Dr. Mohan Bhagwat's central message was that a nation's strength and prosperity depend not solely on political leadership or government policies but significantly on the individual conduct of citizens, social harmony, family values, and collective responsibility. He believes that implementing 'Panch Parivartan' can bring about positive societal change, further strengthening the nation's unity and stability.
