Filmmaker and author Tahira Kashyap, who is also the wife of actor Ayushmann Khurrana, revealed on Monday that her breast cancer has relapsed. Tahira was first diagnosed with the disease in 2018, following which she underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy. Since then, she has been open and vocal about her journey, often sharing her emotional and physical experiences, including dealing with hair loss and the challenges of recovery.
On April 7, which also happens to be World Health Day, Tahira took to Instagram to share the news of her relapse with an inspiring and reflective message. Her post was accompanied by a caption that read:
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because for one it’s a better drink and two you know you will give it your best once again ❤️.”
Tahira emphasized the importance of regular screening, writing in her post, “Seven year itch or the power of regular screening—it’s a perspective. I’d like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me… I still got this.”
Concluding her note with optimism and strength, she added hashtags such as #regularscreening #mammogram #breastcancer #onemoretime #letsgo, and reflected on the irony of her announcement coinciding with World Health Day, saying, “Let’s do whatever we can in our capacity to take care of ourselves ❤️ #gratitude through and through 🙏.”
As news of her diagnosis spread, messages of love and support poured in. Ayushmann Khurrana called her “My hero❤️🥹”, while TV host Mini Mathur wrote, “You will win round 2 as well, Tahira. Stay on course. Keep going.” Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga also shared her encouragement, saying, “I love you! ♥️✨ This too shall pass and you will come out of this victorious ♥️✨.”
