Mehbooba Mufti Voices Concern Over Erosion of Institutions, Supports Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks

  • PDP President Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over the alleged erosion of democratic institutions in India.
  • She endorsed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments, who had alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is “compromised” and raised questions about voter turnout discrepancies, particularly between the 2019 parliamentary elections and the Maharashtra Assembly polls.

“What Rahul Gandhi said… needs to be investigated,” Mufti said, adding that the credibility of even the Supreme Court was being attacked.

  • Mufti criticized the BJP’s response to recent Supreme Court verdicts on governors and Waqf issues, stating, “Even the SC is not being spared. Leaders like Nishikant Dubey and even the Vice President openly targeting the court is deeply worrying.”

🪖 On Army FIR in J&K (Rajouri Incident):

  • Welcomed the FIR against Army personnel accused of assaulting a professor in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. “Such incidents should not happen. I’m glad action has been initiated,” she said.

🕌 On Muslim Community & Rising Communalism:

  • Urged the Muslim community in West Bengal to avoid violent protests amid recent tensions.
  • Highlighted how Muslims have survived due to India’s secular majority, but warned of rising communal threats and instances of demolition of mosques and dargahs.

“The condition of Muslims is deteriorating. Secularism has kept us going for 77 years, but now that is under threat.”
