Bollywood star Ajay Devgn is set to voice a character in an international film for the first time, and joining him on this exciting venture is his son, Yug Devgan, making his voice acting debut. The father-son duo will lend their voices to the Hindi version of Karate Kid: Legends, the sixth installment in the globally beloved Karate Kid franchise.
Ajay Devgn will dub for Mr. Han, originally portrayed by Jackie Chan, while Yug will voice Li Fong, a new protagonist played by Ben Wang in the English version. This marks Yug’s first creative collaboration with his father, adding an emotional and nostalgic dimension to the project.
The announcement was made by Sony Pictures India on Instagram, sharing a picture of the duo with the caption: “The master has a new voice. So does the student! Ajay Devgn and Yug Devgan are all set to bring Jackie Chan and Ben Wang’s epic journey to life in #KarateKidLegends (Hindi). Kick into action with the Hindi trailer dropping soon.”
Film Premise and Setting
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber, Karate Kid: Legends is set three years after the finale of the popular series Cobra Kai (2018–2025). The story follows Li Fong, a gifted kung fu student who relocates to New York City and faces challenges adapting to a new environment. Amid personal struggles and rivalry with a local karate champion, Li finds mentorship and purpose under the guidance of Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso (reprised by Ralph Macchio).
The film continues the franchise’s focus on resilience, mentorship, and personal growth, blending nostalgic elements with fresh narratives for new audiences.
Star Cast and Production
Alongside Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, Karate Kid: Legends stars Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. It is the first Karate Kid film not produced by franchise veteran Jerry Weintraub, who passed away in 2015.
The film will be released in Indian theatres on May 30, 2025, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment India.
