UP ATS Arrests Man for Spying and Smuggling at Pakistan Border

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Sunday arrested a man accused of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and smuggling goods across the India-Pakistan border.

Identified as Shehzad, a resident of the Tanda area in Rampur district, the accused was arrested in Moradabad following a tip-off. The ATS stated that Shehzad had been secretly traveling between India and Pakistan for several years, smuggling cosmetics, clothes, spices, and other items. During these trips, he allegedly acted as an ISI agent, gathering and sharing sensitive information related to India’s security infrastructure.

According to the police, Shehzad also provided Indian SIM cards to ISI operatives and transferred money to local agents on instructions from Pakistani handlers. Investigations further revealed that he was allegedly involved in recruiting Indian nationals, particularly from Rampur and other parts of Uttar Pradesh, under the guise of smuggling but with the actual intention of involving them in espionage.

The ATS has booked Shehzad under serious charges related to endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.

This arrest follows a similar case just days ago, where travel blogger Jyoti Rani was arrested by Haryana Police for allegedly passing sensitive information to Pakistan’s intelligence operatives. Rani was reportedly in contact with a Pakistani official at the High Commission in New Delhi and is currently in police custody under the Official Secrets Act and other charges.
