Neeraj Chopra Secures 2nd Place at Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025 in Poland, Extending Top-2 Streak to 22 Events

India’s golden boy of athletics, Neeraj Chopra, added yet another feather to his cap on Friday, May 23, by finishing second at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025 held in Chorzw, Poland. Despite tough weather conditions and early struggles, Neeraj showcased his trademark grit and composure, unleashing his best throw of 84.14 metres in the final round to secure a podium finish.

🥈 Neeraj’s Performance Highlights:

  • Final Position: 2nd place
  • Best Throw: 84.14m (6th and final round)
  • Other Legal Throws: 81.80m and one other below 84m
  • Fouls: Three
  • Conditions: Chilly and tricky evening in Chorzw
  • Streak: 22 consecutive top-2 finishes since Tokyo Olympics 2021 gold

Neeraj had trailed Germany’s Julian Weber and Grenada’s Anderson Peters for most of the competition. However, following a foul in his fourth attempt and a strategic chat with his coach, the Olympic champion rallied back with two clutch throws, showing his elite mental strength and competitive intelligence.

🗣️ “It was a tricky day, but that’s when champions rise. Neeraj once again proved why he’s in a league of his own,” said a coach close to the Indian contingent.

🏆 Final Standings in Men’s Javelin Throw:

  1. Julian Weber (Germany): 86.12m
  2. Neeraj Chopra (India): 84.14m
  3. Anderson Peters (Grenada): 83.24m

Weber was in imperious form, with three throws over 85m, topping the event comfortably. Neeraj, who recently breached the 90m barrier for the first time at the Doha Diamond League (PB: 90.23m), was clearly pushing his limits in Poland.

Notably, Neeraj was the only athlete to improve on his best throw in the final round, underscoring his ability to rise under pressure—something he’s done time and again on the world stage.

🔥 Neeraj Chopra’s Unmatched Streak (2021–2025):

Neeraj’s 22-event streak of finishing in the top two is virtually unprecedented in men’s javelin history. From his historic Tokyo 2021 gold, to World Championship medals, Diamond League victories, and now the 2025 season, the 26-year-old remains one of the most consistent elite athletes in track and field globally.

📌 What’s Next?

Chopra is expected to continue his preparations for the Paris 2025 World Athletics Championships and the Paris Olympics 2026, with more Diamond League meets and international competitions lined up this summer.

Neeraj’s resilience, consistency, and flair for delivering in crunch moments continue to elevate not just Indian athletics, but the global profile of javelin throw.

🎯 One champion. One mission. One javelin.
