‘Housefull 5’ Nears ₹100 Crore Mark in India; Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life’ Struggles at Box Office

Akshay Kumar’s comedy entertainer Housefull 5 is racing toward the ₹100-crore milestone at the domestic box office after just three days in theatres. According to the film’s producers, the fifth installment in the popular Housefull franchise has amassed ₹91.83 crore nett in India so far. The film opened with ₹24.35 crore on Friday, followed by ₹32.38 crore on Saturday and ₹35.10 crore on Sunday, showing a steady upward trend in earnings.

Housefull 5 introduced an innovative twist by releasing in two versions—Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B—each featuring a different climax and killer. Among the two, Housefull 5A has emerged as the stronger performer, with a higher occupancy rate of 39.52% on Sunday, compared to 24.49% for Housefull 5B, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangada Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, and Nikitin Dheer.

In contrast, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s much-hyped collaboration Thug Life is facing a tough run at the domestic box office. After a promising start with ₹15.5 crore on Thursday, the film’s collections dipped sharply, earning ₹7.15 crore on Friday and ₹7.75 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, it brought in ₹6.5 crore, bringing its total India nett to ₹36.90 crore.

While Housefull 5 rides on mass appeal and franchise loyalty, Thug Life is battling to sustain its momentum despite star power and critical interest.
