Priyanka Chopra Jonas Calls SSMB29 Her “Homecoming” as She Returns to Indian Cinema with Mahesh Babu-Rajamouli Magnum Opus

Global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas is officially returning to Indian cinema, and she’s doing it in grand style — by starring in SSMB29, the much-hyped action-adventure thriller directed by SS Rajamouli and headlined by Mahesh Babu.

Currently being referred to as SSMB29, the film marks Priyanka’s first Indian theatrical release since 2020’s The Sky Is Pink. While fans are calling it her comeback, Priyanka prefers to label it a “homecoming.”

In an interview with India Today, while promoting her Hollywood film Heads of State, Priyanka shared,

“I miss Hindi movies, and I miss India so much… I’m working in India this year, and I’m really excited about that.”

She expressed her excitement about working with Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli, calling the collaboration a dream. The actress also highlighted the emotional significance of shooting in India after a long hiatus, noting it reconnects her with her cinematic roots.

SSMB29: A Global Adventure

The film, touted as one of India’s biggest international projects, also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in a prominent role and is said to have a staggering budget of ₹1,000 crore. The movie will span multiple continents, with upcoming schedules planned in Kenya, reinforcing its pan-international appeal.

Known for his larger-than-life storytelling, SS Rajamouli is expected to deliver another genre-defining epic, with Mahesh Babu playing an adventurer in what is being called a “globetrotting action saga.”

What This Means for Indian Cinema

Priyanka’s return, especially in a film of this scale, is significant. It not only marks her re-entry into the Indian mainstream but also strengthens the bridge between Hollywood and Indian cinema, a space she has championed for over a decade.

With production gaining momentum and international schedules underway, SSMB29 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2026 — and Priyanka’s “homecoming” makes it all the more special.
