MP R. Sudha Injured in Chain-Snatching Incident in Delhi’s High-Security Zone

Congress MP R. Sudha was injured in a chain-snatching incident on Monday morning near the Polish Embassy in Chanakyapuri, one of New Delhi’s highest-security areas. A masked man on a scooter approached from the opposite direction and snatched her gold chain around 6:15 am, causing injuries to her neck and tearing her trousers.

Sudha, Lok Sabha member from Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai, was walking with another MP when the incident occurred. “We both screamed for help. I somehow managed not to fall,” she stated. The attacker wore a full-face helmet and fled the scene immediately.

Calling the incident “traumatising,” Sudha questioned the safety of women even in high-security diplomatic zones. “If women are not safe here, how can they feel safe anywhere in the country?” she asked in her police complaint.

She approached a nearby mobile Delhi Police patrol and was advised to file a formal complaint at the jurisdictional police station. Delhi Police confirmed receipt of her complaint and said an FIR is being registered, with teams working to identify and arrest the suspect.

Sudha is in Delhi for the ongoing Parliament monsoon session and is staying at Tamil Nadu Bhawan, awaiting her official residence allotment.
