Supreme Court Cancels Sushil Kumar’s Bail in Sagar Dhankar Murder Case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, revoked the bail granted to Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar in the 2021 murder case of former junior national wrestling champion Sagar Dhankar.

A Bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra set aside the Delhi High Court’s March 4 order that had allowed Kumar bail. The court has directed the wrestler to surrender within a week.

Kumar and several others are accused of fatally assaulting Dhankar at Chhatrasal Stadium in May 2021, reportedly over a property dispute. Two of Dhankar’s friends were also injured in the incident.

The postmortem report stated Dhankar died from cerebral damage caused by the impact of a blunt object.
