The Union Ministry of Finance has told the Lok Sabha that the Telangana government borrowed a total of ₹13,133 crore from the central government over the last four years, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary disclosed in a written reply.
Year-wise break-up given in Parliament shows Telangana availed loans of ₹4,784 crore (2021–22), ₹2,501 crore (2022–23), ₹1,948 crore (2023–24) and ₹3,900 crore (2024–25).
The minister also informed the House that as of March 31, Telangana’s total outstanding debt stood at ₹4,42,298 crore, which the government said is 26.2% of the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
