Asian Shooting Championship: India Shines on Day One with Two Gold, Three Silver


India’s shooters made a strong start at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun), clinching two gold and three silver medals on Day One.

Gupta–Pratap 1-2 in Youth Air Pistol

  • Girish Gupta (17) struck gold in the 10m air pistol youth final, scoring 241.3, ahead of compatriot Dev Pratap (14), who secured silver with 238.6.
  • The Indian duo’s 1-2 finish underlined the depth of India’s youth talent.

Kapil Bainsla’s Grity Gold in Juniors

  • Earlier, Kapil Bainsla (Palwal, Haryana) secured India’s first gold of the event in the junior men’s 10m air pistol, with a clutch finish of 243.0.
  • He edged out Uzbekistan’s Ilkhombek Obidjonov (242.4) after a dramatic final two shots, while India’s Jonathan Gavin Antony settled for bronze (220.7).
  • The trio of Kapil, Jonathan, and Vijay Tomar also bagged team silver with 1723 points. Korea won gold (1734) and Kazakhstan bronze.

Senior Men’s Events

  • In the senior men’s 10m air pistol, Anmol Jain placed sixth (155.1) in the final, while China’s Hu Kai clinched gold.
  • India—Anmol, Aditya Malra, and Saurabh Chaudhary—took team silver with 1735, behind China.
