Over 50 Delhi Schools Receive Bomb Threat E-Mails; Police Launch Massive Search Operation

More than 50 schools across Delhi reportedly received bomb threat e-mails on Wednesday morning, triggering panic among parents, students and authorities. While the exact number of schools targeted remains unclear, institutions in Malviya Nagar and Najafgarh were among those that received the threats.

Schools such as DAV Public School, Faith Academy, Doon Public School and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya were named among the recipients. The threatening e-mails, allegedly sent by a group calling itself ‘Terrorizers 111’, demanded USD 25,000 and claimed to have planted explosive devices in school premises.

Visuals showed bomb squads and security personnel deployed at the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Hauz Rani, where extensive checks were conducted. Authorities evacuated students and staff as a precautionary measure while search operations were carried out.

Repeat of Earlier Incidents

The development comes just two days after 32 schools in Delhi received similar bomb threat e-mails on Monday, including Delhi Public School (Dwarka), Modern Convent School and ShreeRam World School. Parents rushed to collect their children, and large-scale security sweeps were undertaken.

In those cases too, the threats were linked to ‘The Terrorizers 111 Group’, which demanded payments in cryptocurrency and claimed to have hacked IT systems and planted “pipe bombs and advanced explosive devices.”

Not the First Time

Hoax bomb threats to schools have become a recurring problem in the national capital. In May 2023, nearly 300 schools were targeted with similar e-mails, all of which later turned out to be hoaxes. More recently, in July 2024, at least eight schools reported bomb threats over three consecutive days. Even St Stephen’s College, Delhi University, received a mail warning that IEDs and RDX packets had been planted on campus.

Police are currently investigating the latest round of threats, though many previous incidents have been traced back to hoax attempts.
