Virar (Maharashtra): At least three persons were killed and eight others injured when a portion of the Ramabai Apartment in Virar East collapsed late Tuesday night.
According to officials, several residents are feared trapped under the debris. Teams from the police, fire brigade, NDRF and ambulance services rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.
Eyewitnesses said one wing of the two-winged structure came crashing down during a birthday party on the fourth floor. “Around 15–20 people are feared trapped,” a witness said.
So far, eight people have been rescued and shifted to VVCMC hospital. Authorities have evacuated the other wing of the building to avert further casualties. The extent of the damage is being assessed as search and rescue efforts continue.
