Govt to Meet Banks, Fintechs on Aug 29 to Finalise Online Gaming Act Rollout

Senior government officials will meet representatives of banks and fintech companies on August 29 to draw up an implementation roadmap for the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which bans all forms of real-money games.

The Act, passed by Parliament on August 22 and receiving Presidential assent the same day, mandates financial institutions to block payments to banned gaming platforms.

According to a government source, the meeting will be chaired by the secretaries of financial services and MeitY, focusing on operational and regulatory challenges.

Key discussions will cover steps to curb money flow, ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) norms, and facilitate consumer refunds from gaming wallets, the source added.
