Security forces on Thursday foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, killing two terrorists in a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Search operations are currently underway in the area.
According to officials, based on intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration attempt, the Army and J&K Police launched a joint operation in the Gurez sector’s Naushehra Nard. Alert troops detected suspicious movement and challenged the infiltrators, who opened indiscriminate fire. The soldiers retaliated effectively, neutralising two terrorists.
Confirming the incident, the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps wrote on social media platform X: “Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists.”
This development comes days after the Army suffered casualties while foiling infiltration bids in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. On August 13, the Chinar Corps paid tribute to Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life during an anti-infiltration operation in Uri. The Army had also killed two terrorists in the same area a few days earlier.
In another solemn tribute, the Chinar Corps recently honoured Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, who died while performing operational duties along the LoC in Baramulla. In a statement, the Army expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families, saluting the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen soldiers.
