ISRO Invites Proposals for Scientific Use of Chandrayaan-3 Data

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has issued an Announcement of Opportunity (AO) inviting India’s scientific community to analyse and utilise data from the Chandrayaan-3 lander and rover experiments.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission, which made history on August 23, 2023, with a successful soft-landing near the Moon’s south pole, has generated valuable datasets that ISRO now seeks to open for wider scientific research.

The AO is open to faculty and researchers from recognised Indian universities, colleges, research institutions, and government organisations outside ISRO and the Department of Space. Proposals may be submitted individually or in groups.

ISRO clarified that only researchers with at least four years of service left before retirement can lead projects as Principal Investigators (PI). Proposals must be endorsed by institutional heads.

Each project will run for three years, with a possible one-year extension based on scientific outcomes and committee recommendations. Annual reviews will be conducted by ISRO to monitor progress.

The last date for submission of proposals is October 21, 2025.
