Man Assaulted in Pune Theatre Over The Conjuring: Last Rites Spoilers

In a bizarre incident in Pune, a moviegoer was assaulted inside a theatre after he objected to another person giving out spoilers during a screening of The Conjuring: Last Rites.

The horror film, which has been running to near-packed houses across India, has already collected over ₹60 crore in its opening weekend—the highest ever for a horror film in the country. The incident highlights just how seriously fans are taking the film’s suspense.


The Incident

According to police, the clash took place on Tuesday night at a multiplex in Pimpri Chinchwad. The 29-year-old complainant, a software professional, and his wife were watching the film when a man seated in the back row allegedly kept narrating the story aloud to his wife.

When the complainant requested him to stop spoiling the suspense and disturbing others, the accused reportedly abused and attacked him. The situation escalated further when the complainant’s wife intervened, leading to both being allegedly assaulted by the accused and his wife.


Police Action

The complainant sustained minor injuries and later approached the police. A case has been registered at Chinchwad police station under BNS sections 117 (abetting offence in public), 115 (abetment), 352 (assault), along with other relevant provisions. Officials confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.

The Conjuring: Last Rites marks the final installment of the globally successful Conjuring series, based on the real-life paranormal investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

While the film has received mixed reviews internationally, it has had a record-breaking run in India, earning ₹61 crore net in four days. Globally, it has already crossed $210 million at the box office.
