YRF Offers ₹22 Crore Compensation to Naga Vamsi After War 2’s Box Office Failure

Yash Raj Films (YRF) is facing financial strain following the underperformance of War 2 at the box office. According to Great Andhra, the studio has offered ₹22 crore in compensation to Telugu producer-distributor Naga Vamsi, who bore heavy losses after acquiring the film’s distribution rights in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, War 2 was expected to be a pan-India blockbuster, riding on the star power of its leads. However, the film has managed just ₹200 crore net domestically in its first week against a massive ₹400 crore landing cost. The Telugu version, which was sold for ₹80 crore, has grossed only ₹52 crore net, and collections have now dropped below ₹1 crore per day. To mitigate losses, YRF has reportedly structured the compensation as: The Telugu distributor had initially expected returns of over ₹100 crore, but final numbers are likely to fall far short. While the Hindi version has fared somewhat better, crossing ₹150 crore net, the Telugu release has been termed a “disaster.” Overseas numbers too remain underwhelming, with War 2’s worldwide collection hovering around ₹300 crore. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film also stars Kiara Advani and forms part of the expanding YRF Spy Universe.

Ajay Devgn’s already-packed slate of films may soon expand further, as reports suggest the actor is in active talks with Kannada filmmaker JP Tuminadu, the director of the recent hit Su From So, for a new horror-comedy. If finalised, the film is expected to go on floors in the first half of 2026. KVN Productions is also bankrolling big-ticket ventures including Haiwaan (starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan) and Yash’s Toxic, slated for an Eid 2026 release. Meanwhile, Devgn is currently shooting Ranger with director Jagan Shakti, and gearing up for two of his flagship franchises — Drishyam 3 (expected to roll in October 2025) and Golmaal FIVE (January 2026).

Supreme Court Modifies Stray Dog Order, Expands Scope to Pan-India

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Friday modified its earlier order on the handling of stray dogs, clarifying that captured canines will be released after sterilisation and immunisation, except those suffering from rabies or displaying aggressive behaviour. This marks a significant change from the August 11 directive of a two-judge bench, which had barred the release of strays and warned of contempt proceedings for any laxity. A three-judge bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria also expanded the scope of the case beyond Delhi-NCR, directing that it be treated as a pan-India matter. Notices have been issued to all states and Union territories, as well as relevant departments, to work towards a uniform national policy for stray dog management. The bench also decided to transfer similar cases pending in high courts to itself. The court reiterated that civic bodies in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad must carry out mass capture of stray dogs and set up shelters or pounds for their relocation. Progress reports on the creation of such infrastructure must be submitted before the court. However, in a key modification, the bench ruled that only rabid or aggressive dogs should be excluded from release after sterilisation and immunisation. Another significant directive requires municipal bodies to designate specific feeding zones for stray dogs within each ward. Feeding strays in public places has been strictly prohibited, with violations liable to legal action. Municipal authorities have also been asked to set up helplines to report such violations. The bench further emphasised that no individual or organisation should obstruct municipal officials in capturing stray dogs. In cases of obstruction, public servants may initiate proceedings, and NGOs or individuals found guilty of interference could face a penalty of ₹25,000. At the same time, the court clarified that animal lovers wishing to adopt strays can apply to municipal corporations. The earlier August 11 order, passed by Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, had mandated the immediate rounding up of all stray dogs across Delhi-NCR and their confinement in large shelters, barring any release back onto the streets. This sweeping direction faced sharp criticism from animal welfare groups, who called it cruel and inconsistent with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules. Responding to widespread criticism and fresh petitions, Chief Justice Bhushan R. Gavai reassigned the case to the three-judge bench. During the August 14 hearing, the larger bench expressed strong displeasure at the Delhi government and civic bodies for failing to enforce their own regulatory framework, noting that both human safety and animal welfare were being neglected. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Delhi government, highlighted alarming cases of child mutilation and fatal dog bites, stressing the need for urgent intervention. He urged that while dogs should not be killed, they must be separated, sterilised and treated humanely to address the growing public health risk. On the other side, senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Sidharth Luthra and others representing animal welfare groups argued that the August 11 order was unlawful and impractical. They contended that the ABC Rules mandate sterilisation and vaccination, followed by returning the dogs to their localities, not permanent confinement in shelters. They also cautioned that mass removals without adequate infrastructure would inevitably lead to cruelty. The matter will continue to be heard as the court seeks to evolve a uniform national policy on stray dog management.

Madras HC Seeks CBFC’s Response on Coolie Certification Row

The Madras High Court on Wednesday sought the response of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to a petition filed by Sun Pictures, producers of superstar Rajinikanth’s latest film Coolie, challenging the ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate granted to the movie. Justice T.V. Thamilselvi issued notice to the CBFC after hearing both sides and posted the matter for final arguments on Monday, August 25. CBFC’s Stand During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) ARL Sundaresan appeared for the CBFC and opposed the urgent hearing. He argued that since Coolie had already released a week earlier, the certification dispute would not impact its ongoing box office performance. The ASG further noted that the film was certified on August 4, while the petition challenging the decision was filed only on August 18. He added that the CBFC had offered to grant a U/A certificate if the makers agreed to cut specific sequences, but the producers declined and endorsed their unwillingness to remove any scenes. Sun Pictures’ Argument Counsel for Sun Pictures countered that the ‘A’ rating was arbitrary and inconsistent, directly discouraging family audiences from watching the film and thereby affecting ticket sales. They argued that other action-packed films, such as the KGF franchise, had received a U/A certificate despite showcasing greater violence. The producers emphasized that family viewership forms a vital segment for mass entertainers, and the current classification was unjust. Significance of the Case This case holds particular importance as Coolie is the first Rajinikanth film in over three decades to receive an ‘A’ certificate—the last being Siva (1989). Despite the certification controversy, Coolie has been a blockbuster, grossing an estimated ₹400 crore worldwide in its first week. The petitioners, Sun Network, were represented by Advocates M. Sneha, Vimal Mohan, and Dinesh.

Pune Court Issues Summons to Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, and Director Subhash Kapoor Over Jolly LLB 3

A Pune civil court has issued summons to actors Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, and director Subhash Kapoor over allegations that their upcoming film Jolly LLB 3 disrespects the judiciary. The court has directed the trio to appear in person on October 28 at 11 a.m. The summons comes in response to a petition filed by lawyer Wajed Rahim Khan, who argued that the film portrays the legal profession in a derogatory manner. He raised objections to certain scenes allegedly mocking advocates and judges, including one where the word “mama,” a slang expression, is reportedly used for members of the bench. The controversy arose after the teaser of Jolly LLB 3 was unveiled on August 12, 2025. While the teaser sparked excitement among fans, it also drew criticism from sections of the legal community. Khan emphasized, “There should be respect for lawyers. That is why I filed a petition in court, because what they have shown about the advocates and the judges is wrong.” The Jolly LLB franchise began in 2013 with Warsi in the lead role, followed by the 2017 sequel Jolly LLB 2 starring Kumar, which was a box-office success. The upcoming third installment reunites both actors, with Kapoor once again in the director’s chair. Produced by Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare under Star Studio 18, the film is scheduled to release on September 19, 2025. The complaint was originally filed in 2024 after the release of the first teaser but has resurfaced now, gaining momentum as the film approaches its theatrical release.

Fan Disguises as Zomato Delivery Boy to Enter Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat, Fails Hilariously

Shah Rukh Khan, fondly known as King Khan, is adored by millions of fans who often go to extreme lengths just to catch a glimpse of him. In a recent viral incident, social media influencer Shubham Prajapat attempted to sneak into the superstar’s residence, Mannat, by pretending to be a Zomato delivery boy. The Plan The video, now widely shared on social media, opens with Shubham standing outside Mannat, expressing his desire to meet SRK. When security stopped him at the main gate, he came up with a creative plan. He ordered two cold coffees through Zomato—one for himself and one supposedly for Shah Rukh Khan. When the real delivery agent arrived, Shubham convinced him to lend him the delivery bag so he could take the order forward. With the bag slung over his shoulder, Shubham confidently approached Mannat’s main gate, hoping to pass off as a delivery guy. The Failed Attempt The front gate guard, however, did not allow him entry. Instead, he directed Shubham to a so-called “secret back door” used for discreet entries. Excited, Shubham rushed there, believing his plan was finally working. At the back entrance, he once again claimed to be delivering coffee, but this time the guard asked him to call the person who had placed the order. When Shubham couldn’t produce any proof, his plan collapsed. Adding a touch of humor, the guard quipped:“Ek phone karega toh poora coffee wala nachega uske saamne.”(If Shah Rukh Khan himself were to make a call, every coffee seller would dance in front of him.) The clip has left fans amused, with many praising Shubham’s creativity while laughing at the lighthearted way the guards handled the situation.
