Clean Chit Recommended for Suspended CBI Judge Sudhir Parmar

In a major relief to suspended special CBI judge Sudhir Parmar, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged ₹400-crore money-laundering case involving real estate developers, a departmental inquiry committee has cleared him of charges of misconduct and favouritism. The inquiry, conducted under Haryana Civil Services Rules by Jalandhar district and sessions judge Nirbhow Gill, reportedly did not find substantial evidence against Parmar. The report was submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which will now be examined by the Vigilance Disciplinary Committee before being placed before the full court for acceptance. Parmar, suspended in April 2023, was in judicial custody from August 10 to November 2, 2023. Acceptance of the inquiry officer’s clean chit could prove to be a setback for the Haryana Vigilance Bureau, which had booked Parmar for alleged misconduct in cases handled by the ED and CBI.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Juhu Bungalow Prateeksha Submerged in Heavy Mumbai Rains

The relentless downpour in Mumbai has brought large parts of the city to a standstill, with flooding, traffic jams and power outages reported across several areas. Among the properties hit by severe waterlogging is Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic bungalow, Prateeksha, located in Juhu. Viral Videos Show Waterlogged Premises Photos and videos of rainwater flooding the premises of the ₹50 crore property have gone viral on social media. Content creators and curious onlookers gathered outside the residence, turning the incident into a tourist attraction. One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared visuals from outside and inside the bungalow, offering a glimpse of the parking area and surrounding premises submerged in water. However, security staff quickly escorted him out. Another user posted pictures highlighting the heavy accumulation of rainwater outside the gates of Prateeksha. A Home Full of Memories Prateeksha holds a special place in the Bachchan family’s legacy. It was the first home Amitabh Bachchan purchased in Mumbai after the success of Sholay (1975). He lived there with his parents, and the bungalow later became the venue for Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s grand wedding in 2007. Today, the superstar owns three bungalows in Mumbai—Jalsa, Janak and Prateeksha. A few years ago, he gifted Prateeksha to his daughter Shweta Nanda. Located just a kilometre from Jalsa, the property is valued at ₹50 crore.

Fan Disguises as Zomato Delivery Boy to Enter Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat, Fails Hilariously

Shah Rukh Khan, fondly known as King Khan, is adored by millions of fans who often go to extreme lengths just to catch a glimpse of him. In a recent viral incident, social media influencer Shubham Prajapat attempted to sneak into the superstar’s residence, Mannat, by pretending to be a Zomato delivery boy. The Plan The video, now widely shared on social media, opens with Shubham standing outside Mannat, expressing his desire to meet SRK. When security stopped him at the main gate, he came up with a creative plan. He ordered two cold coffees through Zomato—one for himself and one supposedly for Shah Rukh Khan. When the real delivery agent arrived, Shubham convinced him to lend him the delivery bag so he could take the order forward. With the bag slung over his shoulder, Shubham confidently approached Mannat’s main gate, hoping to pass off as a delivery guy. The Failed Attempt The front gate guard, however, did not allow him entry. Instead, he directed Shubham to a so-called “secret back door” used for discreet entries. Excited, Shubham rushed there, believing his plan was finally working. At the back entrance, he once again claimed to be delivering coffee, but this time the guard asked him to call the person who had placed the order. When Shubham couldn’t produce any proof, his plan collapsed. Adding a touch of humor, the guard quipped:“Ek phone karega toh poora coffee wala nachega uske saamne.”(If Shah Rukh Khan himself were to make a call, every coffee seller would dance in front of him.) The clip has left fans amused, with many praising Shubham’s creativity while laughing at the lighthearted way the guards handled the situation.

Over 50 Delhi Schools Receive Bomb Threat E-Mails; Police Launch Massive Search Operation

More than 50 schools across Delhi reportedly received bomb threat e-mails on Wednesday morning, triggering panic among parents, students and authorities. While the exact number of schools targeted remains unclear, institutions in Malviya Nagar and Najafgarh were among those that received the threats. Schools such as DAV Public School, Faith Academy, Doon Public School and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya were named among the recipients. The threatening e-mails, allegedly sent by a group calling itself ‘Terrorizers 111’, demanded USD 25,000 and claimed to have planted explosive devices in school premises. Visuals showed bomb squads and security personnel deployed at the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Hauz Rani, where extensive checks were conducted. Authorities evacuated students and staff as a precautionary measure while search operations were carried out. Repeat of Earlier Incidents The development comes just two days after 32 schools in Delhi received similar bomb threat e-mails on Monday, including Delhi Public School (Dwarka), Modern Convent School and ShreeRam World School. Parents rushed to collect their children, and large-scale security sweeps were undertaken. In those cases too, the threats were linked to ‘The Terrorizers 111 Group’, which demanded payments in cryptocurrency and claimed to have hacked IT systems and planted “pipe bombs and advanced explosive devices.” Not the First Time Hoax bomb threats to schools have become a recurring problem in the national capital. In May 2023, nearly 300 schools were targeted with similar e-mails, all of which later turned out to be hoaxes. More recently, in July 2024, at least eight schools reported bomb threats over three consecutive days. Even St Stephen’s College, Delhi University, received a mail warning that IEDs and RDX packets had been planted on campus. Police are currently investigating the latest round of threats, though many previous incidents have been traced back to hoax attempts.

According to police, the firing took place between 5.30 am and 6 am, when three masked men arrived on a motorbike and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the spot. While sources claimed around 15 bullets were fired at the building’s first floor, Elvish’s father, Ram Avtar Yadav, stated that nearly 25–30 rounds were discharged. Elvish, who resides on the third floor of the building, was not at home during the incident. No injuries have been reported. “Our family was inside the house when the firing happened. I was asleep at the time. CCTV footage shows three miscreants, two of whom are clearly visible. PM Modi Pledges ‘Self-Reliant India’ Amid US Tariff Dispute, Announces Major Tax and Business Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first major address since the United States imposed steep 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods, vowed on Friday to build a “self-reliant India” and unveiled a series of tax and regulatory reforms aimed at boosting businesses and supporting the middle class. Speaking at Delhi’s Red Fort on the 78th anniversary of India’s independence, Modi refrained from directly mentioning the escalating trade rift with the US but used strong nationalist rhetoric to promise reduced reliance on imports, from semiconductor chips to fighter jet engines. Dressed in an orange turban and a scarf in the tricolour, he declared, “By the end of this year, ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chips will be available in the market.” The prime minister announced “next-generation GST reforms” by October, intended to benefit middle-class taxpayers and simplify the goods and services tax framework. He also revealed the formation of a dedicated “task force for next generation reforms” to cut compliance costs, reduce arbitrary legal actions, and streamline laws to improve the ease of doing business. The US, under President Donald Trump, initially levied a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods from July 1, then doubled it to 50 per cent last week by adding a secondary tariff on purchases of Russian oil — a move Washington says indirectly supports Moscow’s war in Ukraine. While officials had signalled Modi would avoid direct confrontation in his speech, he made a pointed reference to protecting India’s agricultural sector, saying, “India will never compromise when it comes to protecting the interests of our farmers. Modi will stand like a wall against any policy that threatens their interests.” The tariff dispute has triggered the worst crisis in US-India relations in decades, with analysts noting that it has rekindled mistrust of the West among many Indians. C Raja Mohan, visiting professor at the Institute of South Asian Studies in Singapore, remarked that Modi must balance domestic political strength with pragmatic negotiations, adding, “Modi is telling his system to negotiate with the US in a pragmatic manner and find a solution.” Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal confirmed on Thursday that India remains “fully engaged with the US in trade negotiations.” The push for Atmanirbhar Bharat — a self-reliant India — has been a central theme of Modi’s economic vision, aiming to boost domestic manufacturing in sectors such as electronics, advanced batteries, fertilisers, and energy. While initiatives like Apple shifting part of its iPhone supply chain to India have shown progress, entrenched bureaucratic hurdles remain a challenge to rapid industrial growth.

War 2 – Bigger, Louder, but Nowhere Near Better

War 2 tries to up the ante for Bollywood’s Spy Universe, but ends up proving that scale without substance is just noise in Dolby Atmos. Ayan Mukerji swaps his usual flair for human moments with postcard tourism and physics-defying stunts that are more parody than thrill. The Story (sort of):Somewhere in this globetrotting blur, there’s a mission involving patriotism, betrayal, and a cartel that’s supposed to be menacing but instead feels like a filler villain in a video game. Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir and Jr NTR’s mystery agent have the charisma to carry action, romance, or drama — but here, they’re reduced to moving action figures in a screenplay that keeps changing its mind about what it’s trying to say. The Action:Yes, there are fights on planes, under water, in snow, on trains, inside fire — but none of them land with weight or wit. When NTR survives a near-heart shot and wakes up without so much as a ruffled chest hair, or when Hrithik and Kiara leap from a bullet-riddled jeep glowing with pristine headlights, you start laughing at the stunts instead of with them. Poor CGI and suspiciously flawless six-packs don’t help. Performances: Direction & Style:Mukerji’s strategy seems to be: if the plot’s not working, distract with locations. So we hop from India to Spain to Russia to Switzerland, with Manali thrown in, making the film feel like a travel ad with random explosions. It’s spectacle for spectacle’s sake — expensive, yes, but narratively empty. The Verdict:War 2 isn’t just a step down from War, it risks deflating the entire YRF Spy Universe. All gloss, no grit, and certainly no memorable hook — it’s a film that mistakes louder for better, and global for grand. By the end, neither the villains’ plan nor the heroes’ invincibility matters. It’s just an overlong, overproduced postcard from nowhere. If the Spy Universe wants to survive, it needs stories worth telling — not just bulletproof cheekbones and international hotel bills.

Parliament Passes New Income Tax Bill to Replace 1961 Act, Effective April 1, 2026

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Parliament approved the Income Tax Bill, 2025, replacing the 64-year-old Income Tax Act, 1961. The new law, set to take effect from April 1, 2026, aims to simplify India’s direct tax framework without altering tax rates. Presenting the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said it streamlines the law by reducing Sections from 819 to 536, chapters from 47 to 23, and total words from 5.12 lakh to 2.6 lakh. The law introduces 39 new tables and 40 formulas, replacing dense legal text to improve clarity. “This leaner and more focused law is designed to make it easy to read, understand, and implement,” Sitharaman stated, emphasising that the reform does not impose any new taxes and follows PM Modi’s directive to avoid increasing citizens’ tax burdens. The Bill was passed in the absence of the Opposition, which had staged a walkout demanding a discussion on Bihar’s voter list revision. Sitharaman criticised their absence, noting that the Opposition had earlier agreed to a 16-hour debate in each House. Drafted in a record six months and requiring nearly 75,000 person-hours of work, the Bill will be accompanied by simplified rules, FAQs, and an information memorandum. The Income Tax department’s IT systems will be upgraded to implement the changes. The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was also passed, amending search-related block assessments, extending certain direct tax benefits to Saudi Arabia’s public investment funds, and aligning Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) benefits with those of the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
