Ranveer Allahbadia Moves Supreme Court to Club Multiple FIRs Over ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy
YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court seeking the clubbing of multiple FIRs filed against him over allegedly obscene remarks made during a guest appearance on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna stated that the case will be listed for hearing soon. The Controversial Question The controversy erupted after Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant:“Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or join in once and stop it forever?” The remark, which quickly went viral, sparked widespread outrage and led to legal action. Legal Actions and Police Investigations The Maharashtra Cyber Department registered an FIR against Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, and other artists involved in the show, citing obscene content. The Cyber Department also urged the removal of all 18 episodes of India’s Got Latent after determining that vulgar language was used. The Assam Police has also issued fresh summons to Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani. Guwahati Police registered an FIR on February 10, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stating that the individuals were booked for “promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions.” Apologies and Content Removal Following the backlash, Allahbadia publicly apologized, acknowledging his poor judgment in making the joke. Meanwhile, Raina has deleted all IGT episodes from his YouTube channel, stating that the situation has been overwhelming but assuring his cooperation with authorities.
