Kajal Aggarwal Quashes Death Rumours, Assures Fans She Is “Perfectly Fine”

Actor Kajal Aggarwal became the latest victim of an online death hoax after false reports claiming she had died in a road accident went viral on social media. The unverified stories alleged that the actress had sustained fatal injuries, sparking alarm among fans. On Monday, Kajal took to her Instagram Stories and X (formerly Twitter) to issue a strong clarification. She reassured her followers that she was safe and healthy, dismissing the rumours as “baseless” and “absolutely untrue.” “I’ve come across some baseless news claiming I was in an accident (and no longer around!) and honestly, it’s quite amusing because it’s absolutely untrue. By the grace of god, I want to assure you all that I am perfectly fine, safe, and doing very well. I kindly request you not to believe or circulate such false news. Let’s focus our energies on positivity and truth instead,” Kajal wrote. The actress also responded briefly to ETimes when reached for confirmation, saying she was “busy” but would connect later. A Maldives Break Just days before the rumours, Kajal had shared pictures from her Maldives vacation with husband Gautam Kitchlu, describing the island nation as her “recurring love affair.” Career Front Kajal was last seen in Vishnu Manchu’s mythological drama Kannappa and in Salman Khan’s action film Sikandar earlier this year. She next appears in Indian 3, directed by Shankar and starring Kamal Haasan. Buzz also suggests Kajal has been approached to play Mandodari, Ravana’s wife, in Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana — which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. If confirmed, it would be one of her most prominent roles in recent years.

India Edge Oman on Penalties, Clinch Third Place at CAFA Nations Cup

Hisor (Tajikistan): India’s football team showed grit and resilience to outlast Oman 3-2 on penalties and secure third place in the CAFA Nations Cup on Monday. The result marks India’s first win over Oman in 31 years and offered coach Khalid Jamil a morale-boosting finish in his maiden assignment, despite concerns over the team’s lack of firepower up front. From deficit to glory Ranked 133rd in the world, India trailed after Jameel Al Yahmadi struck for Oman in the 55th minute. But substitutions in the second half changed the game’s tempo. Udanta Singh, introduced in the 78th minute, found the equaliser just two minutes later, heading home after Danish Farooq’s flick from a long throw by Rahul Bheke. A VAR check confirmed the goal, and the sides remained locked 1-1 through extra time, with Oman reduced to 10 men after Ali Al Busaidi’s red card in the 96th minute. Penalty drama In the shootout, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Bheke, and Jithin MS converted for India, while Udanta missed and Anwar Ali’s effort was saved. Oman faltered with Harib Al Saadi and Ahmed Al Kaabi failing to convert, before goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu produced the decisive save from Al Yahmadi to seal India’s victory. Sandhu, who had already kept India in the contest with crucial saves during regulation, dived full stretch to his right to deny the final Oman penalty and trigger jubilant celebrations. Tournament outlook While the CAFA Nations Cup matches do not affect FIFA rankings, the bronze-medal finish is a confidence boost for India, who had lost 3-0 to Iran in the group stage despite a spirited showing. In the final, hosts Uzbekistan stunned Iran 1-0, with Khozhiakbar Alizhonov netting in the 120th minute.

Two Soldiers Killed in Kulgam Gunfight, Year’s Security Toll in J&K Rises to 19

Two Army personnel — Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu — were killed during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, taking the number of security personnel killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year to 19. The clash broke out when Army, CRPF, and J&K police launched a joint search operation in the Guddar forests following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists. Officials said the militants opened fire when challenged. One terrorist was killed in the initial exchange of fire, and another was gunned down later. While their identities are still being confirmed, sources told PTI that one was a local militant and the other was suspected to be a Pakistani known by the code name “Rehman Bhai”. Three other Army personnel, including a Major, were injured in the encounter and evacuated for medical treatment. Despite efforts, Subedar Gaur and Lance Naik Sindhu could not be saved. The officer’s condition is reported to be stable. The Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the deaths of the two soldiers on social media. Of the 19 fatalities among security forces in J&K this year, six have taken place in Kashmir and 13 in the Jammu division. The encounter comes less than a month after a series of clashes in the Valley. On August 13, Havildar Ankit Kumar of the 9 Bihar Regiment was killed in a firefight with armed intruders along the LoC in Uri sector, Baramulla — the third Army fatality in five days. That incident followed the end of an 11-day offensive in Kulgam, where Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh of 19 Rashtriya Rifles were killed. Kulgam has witnessed multiple extended operations this year, including a prolonged battle in the Akhal Khulsan forests from August 1 to 13, in which two soldiers were killed before the forces concluded the offensive. According to security agencies, 18 terrorists have been killed in Kashmir since the April 22 Pahalgam attack, including three Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders linked to that strike. The trio was shot dead in Srinagar on July 28.

Supreme Court Directs EC to Accept Aadhaar as Valid ID for Bihar Voter Roll Revision

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Election Commission to accept Aadhaar cards as proof of identity during the ongoing voter re-verification exercise in Bihar, adding it to the list of 11 documents already deemed valid. The order comes in connection with the poll panel’s special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll ahead of the state assembly election later this year. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, issuing a verbal order in court, said Aadhaar should be accepted as the 12th identity document for inclusion or exclusion from the voter list. The court clarified, however, that Aadhaar cannot be used to establish citizenship, and officials would be allowed to verify the genuineness of the card. The ruling overruled objections from the Election Commission, whose counsel argued that 99.6 per cent of the 7.24 crore voters in the draft roll had already submitted documents and that adding Aadhaar at this stage would not serve much purpose. The Commission had also expressed concerns over forgery, but the court observed that the risk existed for all documents, not just Aadhaar. The opposition, including the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has challenged the revision exercise, calling it an attempt to disenfranchise communities that traditionally back them. The Congress has accused the BJP and the Election Commission of collusion to commit voter fraud. The EC, however, has defended the SIR, arguing it helped identify lakhs of ineligible voters, including foreigners, and insisted the process was carried out transparently. Acknowledging that only genuine citizens should be allowed to vote, the court said people using forged documents must be excluded from the electoral roll. The inclusion of Aadhaar, it noted, would give those excluded an additional option to prove identity when challenging removal from the list. The SIR has already led to a sharp reduction in Bihar’s voter rolls—from 7.9 crore before the exercise to 7.24 crore after. On earlier dates, the court had made 12 political parties part of the hearings and directed them to submit status reports on assistance to deleted voters. It also asked the Bihar State Legal Services Authority to deploy paralegal volunteers to help citizens and political parties file claims and objections. The court described the ongoing controversy as “largely a trust issue” and stressed the need for greater transparency and cooperation between the Election Commission, political parties, and voters in the state.

India, Israel Sign Bilateral Investment Pact to Boost Trade and Strategic Cooperation

India and Israel have signed a bilateral investment agreement aimed at expanding mutual trade and strengthening economic ties, during the visit of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to New Delhi. The pact was signed by Smotrich and India’s Minister of Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, and is being hailed as a milestone in the deepening partnership between the two nations. The agreement seeks to promote greater collaboration in areas such as cybersecurity, defence, innovation, and high-technology, Sitharaman said. Smotrich, who has been sanctioned by several Western nations for his links to illegal West Bank settlements, described the deal as “an important strategic step for our joint vision.” Writing on X, Smotrich noted: “This agreement will open new opportunities for investors in both countries, strengthen Israeli exports, and provide businesses with the certainty and tools to grow in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing markets.” India’s Ministry of Finance termed the accord a “historic milestone,” highlighting its potential to foster cooperation in fintech innovation, infrastructure development, financial regulation, and digital payment connectivity. According to official figures, bilateral trade between India and Israel stood at $3.9 billion in 2024, while current mutual investments are estimated at $800 million. Much of this relationship, however, is dominated by defence and security ties, with India being Israel’s largest weapons buyer. The agreement comes at a time when Israel faces growing global isolation over its war on Gaza. India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has steadily moved closer to Israel. New Delhi was among the first to condemn the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack on Israel as an “act of terror.” Since then, Indian authorities have cracked down on pro-Palestine demonstrations—banning them in some cases—while permitting pro-Israel rallies.

Man Impersonating Naval Personnel Steals Rifle from Navy Nagar, Probe Underway

Mumbai witnessed a major security breach last Saturday when an unidentified man, dressed in naval uniform, gained entry into Navy Nagar — a high-security residential area in Colaba — and fled with an INSAS rifle along with two magazines loaded with 40 live cartridges. The incident has triggered serious concerns over security protocols at the military establishment. According to officials, the impersonator approached a junior sailor on sentry duty around 7:30 pm, claiming that he was his replacement for the next shift. Believing the stranger, the sailor handed over his service weapon and magazines before leaving for his hostel. An hour later, when the sailor returned to collect his watch, he found the man missing. Alarmed, he searched the area for nearly three hours before reporting the matter to his superiors. A search operation was immediately launched in and around Navy Nagar but yielded no trace of the suspect. The Navy then approached Cuffe Parade police, who registered an FIR for theft. Multiple agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), have joined the probe. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage to trace the suspect’s movements and are probing whether he had prior knowledge of duty timings or simply exploited procedural lapses. The Navy has ordered a board of inquiry into the incident and is coordinating with local police to recover the stolen weapon. Meanwhile, a sketch of the suspect has been prepared based on the description provided by the junior sailor. Officials admitted that the ease with which the guard was misled into handing over his rifle has left both the Navy and security agencies embarrassed, raising questions about standard operating procedures in sensitive military areas.

Army Leads Massive Flood Relief Operations; PM Modi to Visit Punjab

The Indian Army has mounted large-scale Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in flood-hit regions across the country, with Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir among the worst-affected states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit flood-affected areas of Punjab on Tuesday (September 9) to assess the damage caused by torrential rains and overflowing rivers that have left a trail of destruction. According to the Army, it has been actively engaged in relief efforts since April 2025, conducting HADR missions at 75 different locations nationwide. A total of 126 rescue columns have been deployed so far, rescuing over 21,500 civilians, providing medical assistance to nearly 9,700 people, and delivering around 23,500 kg of relief supplies. Army engineers have constructed 29 bridges, reinforced bundhs at 12 sites, while helicopters have flown more than 500 hours in rescue and supply missions. Punjab has borne the brunt of the disaster, where the Army deployed 48 rescue columns. These missions saved 10,000 civilians, provided medical aid to 4,700 people, and delivered 12,500 kg of essential supplies. Army helicopters alone flew over 250 hours in the state, also evacuating 500 security personnel, including BSF troops, from forward posts. The Army emphasized that from the plains of Punjab to the remotest interiors, its personnel have once again lived up to the ethos of “Service Before Self,” standing strong as the nation’s shield in a time of grave crisis.

Apple to Unveil Slimmest iPhone Yet at ‘Awe-Dropping’ Event

Apple is expected to debut its thinnest iPhone ever at its annual fall showcase on Tuesday at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. The iPhone 17 lineup will feature the standard, Pro, and Pro Max models, along with a new addition — the iPhone Air, tipped to be Apple’s lightest flagship yet, echoing the branding of its MacBook Air laptops. Beyond iPhones, Apple is set to launch the Apple Watch Series 11 and updated AirPods, rumored to include live translation capabilities — a feature already offered by Google’s Pixel Buds. The company is also likely to confirm rollout dates for iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe. The showcase comes as Apple grapples with potential cost hikes from Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on Chinese goods. CEO Tim Cook has mitigated risks by moving significant production to India and stockpiling U.S. inventories ahead of deadlines. Another focal point will be Apple Intelligence, the AI suite unveiled last year to a lukewarm reception. Key among user expectations is the long-promised revamp of Siri, which has yet to materialize. Cook has pledged progress toward a more personalized Siri in 2026, with reports suggesting Apple may integrate Google’s Gemini AI models to bolster the assistant.
