Janhvi Kapoor Approached for Chaalbaaz Remake

Janhvi Kapoor has been making headlines lately, first with her performance in Param Sundari alongside Sidharth Malhotra, and then with the teaser of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsikumari co-starring Varun Dhawan. Now, there’s another exciting update about the actress. If sources are to be believed, Janhvi Kapoor has been offered the lead role in the official remake of her mother Sridevi’s iconic film Chaalbaaz. A reliable insider revealed, “For Janhvi, Chaalbaaz is a lot more than just a film. It’s an emotion. She has jumped at the chance of playing the lead role, but is treading with utmost caution.” The source further added that Janhvi doesn’t want to simply rely on her mother’s legacy. “She is taking opinions from people around for the Chaalbaaz remake. She is excited, but also wary of the inevitable comparisons. She is expected to take a final call by the end of September,” the insider stated. While the details about the producers and directors are being kept under wraps, the possibility of Janhvi stepping into a role once immortalized by Sridevi has already created a buzz. If everything falls into place, audiences may soon see Janhvi Kapoor recreating the magic of Chaalbaaz for a new generation.

Nag Ashwin Shares Major Update on Kalki 2

Kalki 2898 AD, starring pan-India icons Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, hit theatres in June 2024 and went on to collect nearly ₹1,050 crore worldwide. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the sci-fi mythological thriller emerged as a global blockbuster, leaving fans eagerly awaiting its sequel. Following the massive success of the first part, all eyes have been on Kalki 2. Nag Ashwin had earlier announced that the sequel would begin filming towards the end of 2025. Recently, during a podcast appearance, the director dropped a significant update about the much-anticipated project. Ashwin revealed that while he hopes to start shooting by late 2025, several factors will determine the timeline. “The actors have to come together. Some of the pre-visualized sequences and action sequences are much bigger. So it will take some time. I don’t have an exact answer. Everyone is busy,” he explained. He further added that while filming itself will take time, the real challenge lies in post-production. “Hopefully in another two or three years, that’s what I think,” he said, hinting that fans may have to wait longer to witness the next chapter on the big screen. Kalki 2898 AD also featured Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. The film’s epic soundtrack was composed by Santhosh Narayanan, and it was produced by Ashwini Dutt.

India Edge Past Japan 3-2 to Seal Super4s Spot in Asia Cup

Rajgir: The Rajgir Sports Complex was once again packed to the rafters as fans gathered to watch India take on Japan in their second Asia Cup clash on Sunday. While many expected a dominant display from the hosts, it turned into a tense affair, with India scraping through to a narrow 3-2 win. Strong goalkeeping by Suraj Karkera and the tireless running of Vivek Sagar Prasad during penalty corners proved decisive, helping India secure their place in the Super4s stage. Mandeep Singh opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute with a neat field goal following a pass from Sukhjeet Singh. Just a minute later, skipper Harmanpreet Singh doubled the lead from a penalty corner. Japan pulled one back through Kosei Kawabe in the 38th minute, but Harmanpreet struck again in the dying moments of the third quarter, slipping the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs for his second of the match. Kawabe responded once more in the final minute, deflecting the ball off the framework past Karkera, leaving Japan a goal short of parity. Japan piled on the pressure in the closing stages, especially after Harmanpreet received a yellow card. But Karkera stood tall, denying four successive penalty corners in the second quarter and three more in the final quarter. His reflexes were on full display—first blocking with his left foot and then diving to stop a rebound attempt. Meanwhile, Krishan Bahadur Pathak, playing his 150th international, also made five crucial saves. Speaking after the match, Karkera credited preparation and teamwork. “We had planned a way to defend the PCs, and we executed it. Of course, there is a lot of space for improvement. But we watched the videos of the match against China and worked on wherever we did wrong,” he said. The custodian revealed he had faced up to 500 shots per training session in preparation, focusing particularly on counter control, which showed when Japan pressed hard late in the game. Coach Craig Fulton praised Karkera and Vivek’s performances but expressed concern over missed opportunities. “We high-pressed really well, and that part of our game was excellent. We couldn’t convert a few more field goals, but the stats are really high for us in that aspect. We just couldn’t finish what we started,” Fulton noted. He also pointed out the toll of playing in the afternoon heat, which drained the team in the third quarter and allowed Japan back into the contest. Earlier in the day, China thrashed Kazakhstan 13-1 after conceding an early penalty corner goal. With momentum on their side, China will face Japan next, while India’s next challenge will be against Kazakhstan.

Owaisi Slams Modi–Xi Talks, Says Meeting Failed to Address Key Concerns

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, alleging that the talks failed to address “critical questions” important to Indians. In a post on X, the Hyderabad MP said, “The @PMOIndia meeting with Chinese President today has failed to answer the critical questions that Indians have been looking for. On the top of that list is China’s support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and the extension of CPEC into Afghanistan. We have not heard a word on the sharing of hydrological river data by China.” Owaisi also raised concerns over the situation in Ladakh, claiming Indian soldiers were unable to patrol buffer zones and local graziers had been denied access to areas since 2020. He further alleged that Beijing had made no commitments on resuming the supply of rare earths and other critical materials, nor on importing more goods from India. “These are the issues that matter to Indians, not the photo op, the colour of jacket or the length of the carpet. Sadly, Modi–Xi meeting has failed to deliver on substantive issues,” he said. Meanwhile, an official Indian readout of the talks, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, stated that Modi and Xi agreed to work towards a “fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable” solution to the boundary issue and vowed to boost trade and investment ties. PM Modi underlined that peace and tranquility in border areas were essential for the continued development of bilateral ties, adding that India was committed to advancing relations based on “mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity.” The discussions largely focused on expanding trade, reducing deficits, and cooperating on regional and global issues, including terrorism and fair trade in multilateral platforms. The talks came amid ongoing disruptions in global trade following sweeping tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, including a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods.

Bihar CEO Counters Congress Claim of 89 Lakh Voter List Complaints

Patna: Hours after the Congress claimed it had submitted nearly 89 lakh complaints regarding alleged discrepancies in Bihar’s voter lists, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) issued a rebuttal, saying the party had not followed the proper procedure. In an official statement shared on X, the CEO clarified that Congress leaders had recently submitted letters to District Election Officers requesting deletion of around 89 lakh names from the electoral rolls. However, the CEO stressed that deletions can only be processed under Rule 13 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, which requires objections to be filed in Form 7 by Booth Level Agents (BLAs) or individuals, accompanied by a declaration under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The statement noted that the figures cited by Congress were “unverified” and said the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) would take “appropriate decisions” after affidavits and proper scrutiny. It also referenced the Supreme Court’s interim order of August 22, which stated that objections regarding electoral rolls must be filed in the prescribed format with the concerned ERO. Earlier, at a press conference in Patna, Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that officials were refusing to accept complaints filed by the party’s BLAs. “We kept on doing our work silently and smiled at the sources who said no political party had filed objections. Complaints are not taken from our BLAs when they go to submit them,” he said. Khera also expressed confidence in Congress’s prospects in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. “We will win these elections. People’s eyes have opened that this is a stolen mandate,” he told ANI. Meanwhile, the EC confirmed it had received 118 claims and objections in total under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 exercise, all from the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. Of these, 103 were for exclusion of names and 15 for inclusion.

Study Reveals Beta-Blockers May Be Risky for Women After Heart Attack

Beta-blockers, long considered a cornerstone drug for heart patients, may actually put some women at higher risk after a heart attack, according to a major international study. Key Findings About the Study Why Are Women Affected Differently? Experts suggest several factors: Dr. Andrew Freeman (National Jewish Health, Denver) noted: “Gender has a lot to do with how people respond to medication. Some of it is size, some of it is biology, and some factors we still don’t fully understand.” Why Beta-Blockers Are Prescribed But they also carry side effects: fatigue, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, mood changes, erectile dysfunction (in men). Impact on Future Guidelines Dr. Valentin Fuster, senior study author, said: “These findings will reshape international clinical guidelines… and should spark a long-needed, sex-specific approach to treatment.”

Red and Orange Alerts Issued in Uttarakhand as Heavy Rains Lash State

Dehradun: Predicting extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days, the Meteorological Centre has issued red and orange alerts for most districts of Uttarakhand. Following the warning, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday directed officials to remain on high alert round the clock. A red alert has been sounded for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar on Monday, warning of extremely heavy rain at some locations and heavy to very heavy rainfall at others. Chairing a review meeting with senior officials, CM Dhami described the coming days as “challenging” and instructed authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure public safety. He asked State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman to monitor the situation from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), citing the heightened risk of landslides and waterlogging. The CM also took stock of ongoing relief and rescue efforts in disaster-affected areas and directed the commissioners of both Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to expedite rehabilitation work. He further instructed officials to keep a strict vigil on river water levels, with round-the-clock monitoring. Meanwhile, rain-related tragedies have already claimed lives. Scientists May Have Finally Identified the 300,000-Year-Old Petralona Skull

A mysterious skull discovered over six decades ago in Petralona Cave, northern Greece, may finally have its identity confirmed. Using uranium-thorium dating, researchers have determined the fossil—long debated among anthropologists—to be at least 286,000 years old, belonging to the extinct human ancestor Homo heidelbergensis. The Skull’s History Latest Findings Significance The study, published in the Journal of Human Evolution, notes that the Petralona skull supports the idea of coexistence between evolving Neanderthals and other hominins during the Middle Pleistocene in Europe. Researchers also observed similarities between the Greek skull and the Kabwe (Broken Hill) skull found in Zambia, which is also attributed to Homo heidelbergensis and dated to around 300,000 years ago. Broader Implications The new evidence places the Petralona hominin within a distinct, more primitive group than both Neanderthals and modern humans, reshaping our understanding of the complex evolutionary web in Eurasia before Homo sapiens arrived.
