Govt Plans Major GST Reform: Two-Slab System, Cheaper Medicines, Daily-Use Items

The Centre is preparing for the biggest reform in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime since its rollout in 2017. According to a CNBC-TV18 report, the Group of Ministers (GoM) on rate rationalisation is likely to propose cutting down the current four-slab structure (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) to a simpler two-rate system of 5% and 18%. Healthcare Gets Top Priority Daily-Use & Essential Items to Get Cheaper Entertainment & Travel Economic Impact Analysts say the rationalisation could simplify compliance, stimulate consumption, and strengthen GST as a revenue pillar contributing ~30% of total collections (around 2.5% of GDP in FY2024–25). The move also comes at a time when India faces external trade shocks such as the 50% tariffs imposed by the US on Indian goods. Experts suggest lowering GST on “common man items” will cushion domestic demand and reduce inflationary pressure.

Shoot of Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 in Prayagraj Hit by On-Set Drama

The shoot of Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 has officially kicked off in Prayagraj, but the film is already making headlines for unexpected reasons. Viral videos circulating online show members of the film’s crew getting into a heated clash with locals, followed by a scuffle. Viral Videos Spark Controversy One clip shows two men from the city approaching a crew member during the filming of a car sequence. The argument quickly escalates, with locals seen beating up a man, whom some online posts even claim to be the director. While a few bystanders attempted to diffuse the situation, others reportedly joined in, intensifying the fight. Another video doing the rounds shows lead actors Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana in what appears to be a heated exchange inside a car. Ayushmann can be seen animatedly gesturing while Sara eventually storms off. However, sources suggest this was most likely a scripted sequence and not a real altercation between the actors. Cast and Crew Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 is the sequel to the 2019 rom-com starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday. This time, Ayushmann Khurrana steps into the lead role, with Sara Ali Khan and Wamiqa Gabbi playing the female leads. Reports indicate that director Mudassar Aziz, known for Happy Bhaag Jayegi and Pati Patni Aur Woh, is helming the project again. However, Aziz has not yet commented on the alleged clash with locals or confirmed his involvement in the viral incident. Fresh Pairings, Same Comic Spirit A source earlier told Pinkvilla: “Sara and Ayushmann are a fresh combo in the comic space, and the actress fits the T for the character’s brief. She heard the script, and it was an instant yes from her side for the film.” Industry insiders suggest that the triangular dynamic of Ayushmann–Sara–Wamiqa promises a refreshing spin, combining proven comic timing with new on-screen chemistry. Awaiting Official Statement So far, the makers have not released any statement regarding the alleged assault on the crew. Whether the incident will disrupt the Prayagraj schedule remains to be seen.

Natural Ways to Support Brain Health After 30

The world is moving at a faster pace than ever, and so are our lives. In this environment, staying healthy has never been more important. Many people are turning to natural ways to enhance their well-being — especially since, after the age of 30, the body’s needs begin to change and demand more mindful care. Scientific research continues to show how certain nutrients and lifestyle choices can support brain health, sharpen memory, and improve overall mental well-being. Here’s a look at some natural compounds and habits that experts suggest can make a real difference. Homecooked Meals: A Simple Key Nutritionists consistently emphasize the power of homecooked meals. Freshly prepared foods, with balanced portions of protein, whole grains, healthy fats, and vegetables, provide the brain with a steady supply of essential nutrients — far better than highly processed or fast food. Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi) A revered Ayurvedic herb, Bacopa Monnieri — or brahmi — has long been used to boost memory, reduce anxiety, and support restful sleep. Ginkgo Biloba One of the oldest herbal supplements, Ginkgo Biloba has been used for centuries to enhance brain function. Omega-3 Fatty Acids Essential for brain structure and performance, Omega-3s — especially DHA and EPA — are found abundantly in fatty fish like salmon, as well as walnuts and chia seeds. Phosphatidylserine A fatty acid naturally concentrated in brain tissue, Phosphatidylserine plays a vital role in cellular function and communication. Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) A derivative of amino acids, Acetyl-L-Carnitine supports brain energy metabolism and protects against age-related decline. Final Word While supplements and herbs show promise, experts stress that a holistic lifestyle matters most — including balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, physical activity, stress management, and strong social connections. Messi Hints Venezuela Clash Could Be His Last Home Qualifier for Argentina

Buenos Aires: Lionel Messi has yet to confirm when he will hang up his boots, but the Argentine superstar admitted that next week’s World Cup qualifier against Venezuela could be his final appearance at home in such a fixture. “It’s going to be a very, very special match for me because it’s the last qualifying match,” said the 38-year-old captain on Wednesday night, shortly after guiding Inter Miami to the Leagues Cup final with a win over Orlando City. Argentina, already assured of a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will host Venezuela next Thursday at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires before wrapping up their South American qualifiers away to Ecuador on September 9. Messi, who led Argentina to glory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has previously hinted he may retire from international football after next year’s edition in North America. The qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup will not begin until 2027, when Messi will be 40. “I don’t know if there will be friendlies or more matches after (Venezuela), but it is a very special match, so my family will be there with me: my wife, my children, my parents, my siblings,” Messi said. “We’re going to live it like that. I don’t know what will happen next.” In response, CONMEBOL posted on social media: “The last dance is coming,” alongside an image of Messi in the Argentina shirt — fueling speculation about his farewell. Meanwhile, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has raised ticket prices for the highly anticipated clash, with seats ranging from $100 to $500, as fans scramble for what could be their final chance to see Messi in action on home soil in a World Cup qualifier.

Rajasthan Issues India’s First Framework for Stray Dog Management After SC Directive

Jaipur, August 29, 2025:Rajasthan has become the first State in the country to issue a comprehensive framework for the management of stray dogs, following a recent Supreme Court directive on controlling the canine population in the National Capital Region. The Department of Local Self Government (LSG) has circulated detailed guidelines to all municipal corporations, councils, and municipalities, mandating strict adherence to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023. Feeding Zones, Sterilisation Centres Under the new rules, every ward and locality will have designated feeding zones, while new centres will be established for sterilisation, vaccination, and deworming. Urban local bodies must submit compliance reports within 30 days. Local Self Government Secretary Ravi Jain said Rajasthan had set an example for the country by balancing public safety with animal welfare.“These comprehensive orders will bring the desired results. All municipal bodies have been asked to study the rules in full and ensure strict compliance,” he said. Humane Capture Only The guidelines ban the use of tongs, wires, or nooses for capturing dogs, mandating humane handling by trained staff using nets or by hand. Each dog-catching team must include: Sick or injured dogs can only be sterilised after full recovery, while puppies under six months and lactating females with un-weaned litters cannot be captured. Once sterilised, vaccinated, and dewormed, dogs will be released back to their original location, with local feeders informed. Animal Welfare and Monitoring Jaipur-based activist Mariam Abuhaideri welcomed the move, calling it a potential model for the country, but cautioned that implementation would be challenging. NGOs recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India will receive: Every municipal body will form a monitoring committee to track sterilisation, vaccination, and release programmes. Rabies, Transparency, and CCTV To ensure transparency, CCTV cameras will be mandatory in operation theatres and ABC centres. Dogs suspected of rabies or repeated biting incidents will be isolated in kennels under veterinary supervision until natural death. The guidelines also require mandatory fact verification in reported dog-bite cases to avoid misuse of complaints.

Neeraj Chopra Finishes Runner-Up in Diamond League Finals, Weber Dominates With 91.57m Throw

Zurich, August 28, 2025: Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra had to settle for second place at the Diamond League Finals for the third straight year, as Germany’s Julian Weber produced a commanding performance with back-to-back 90m-plus throws to clinch his maiden trophy. Chopra managed a best effort of 85.01m in his final attempt, moving past 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott (84.95m) to secure silver. Defending champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished fourth with 82.06m. Weber stole the show early with a 91.37m opener followed by a career-best 91.57m in his second attempt. He added throws of 83.66m, 86.45m, and 88.66m to underline his dominance, finishing over six metres clear of Chopra. For Chopra, known for his consistency beyond 88m, it was an uncharacteristic outing. He opened with 84.35m, followed by 82m and a foul, before two more failed attempts and his last-round recovery to 85.01m. “This was not too bad. But we are getting close to the World Championships, so I still need to throw a little bit further,” Chopra said afterwards. “I am happy for Julian today. He threw really far. At major championships, though, the gold is more important than the distance, and I will try my best to win the medal in Tokyo.” The Zurich result continues Weber’s strong season against Chopra. The German now leads their 2025 head-to-head 3-1, having earlier beaten him in Doha (May) and Chorzow (May), while Chopra triumphed in Paris (June). However, Chopra still dominates their overall rivalry, 15-5 since 2016. Both men breached the coveted 90m mark for the first time this season in Doha, with Chopra throwing 90.23m but still finishing behind Weber’s 91.06m. Weber has now registered three 90m-plus throws this year. Chopra, who last competed at the NC Classic in Bengaluru (July 5) with a winning throw of 86.18m, heads to Tokyo next as the defending World Champion (September 13–21).

Param Sundari Review — Love Beyond Algorithms

In an age where love is reduced to swipes, filters, and compatibility scores, Param Sundari arrives like a breath of fresh air — a heartfelt reminder that no app or AI can replicate the magic of human connection. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, this swooning romantic drama is both contemporary and old-school. It acknowledges the digital era we live in but never lets us forget that true love is about eye contact, smiles that change your day, and the breathtaking feeling of being seen. From its very first scene, the film feels special. There’s a warmth and harmony to the storytelling — dazzling in moments, soothing in others — that makes time stand still. Unlike many formulaic romances, Param Sundari doesn’t rush; it unfolds gently, layering its emotions until they overwhelm you with authenticity. At its heart, the film follows Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a slick Delhi entrepreneur building a soulmate-detection app. For him, love is about data. But when his father (a pitch-perfect Sanjay Kapoor) challenges him to use his own app to find love in 30 days, Param’s life takes a turn. Enter Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) — a grounded, firecracker Malayali woman who doesn’t fit into any algorithmic box. She’s real, unfiltered, and magnetic, and she upends everything Param thought he knew about love. What begins as a digital match becomes a soulful journey. The romance is neither forced nor formulaic; it grows from awkward banter into something raw and irresistible. Their chemistry crackles — playful at first, then achingly tender. Performances elevate the film. Sidharth Malhotra balances charm with surprising vulnerability, but the show belongs to Janhvi Kapoor, delivering her most assured performance yet. Her Sundari is confident, earthy, and dignified, never slipping into cliché. The supporting cast sparkles: Sanjay Kapoor provides some of the film’s funniest moments, Manjot Singh is endearing, Inayat Verma steals every scene she’s in, and Renji Panicker and Siddhartha Shankar ground the story with emotional heft. Visually, the film shifts beautifully between Delhi’s glossy tech world and Kerala’s serene backwaters, captured with elegance. Costumes stay understated yet striking, reflecting the authenticity of the characters. And then there’s the music — the soul of Param Sundari. From playful tracks like Pardesiya and Danger to the heartfelt Sun Mere Yaar Ve and Chand Kagaz Ka, the album is a six-song powerhouse. The title track Sundari Ke Pyar Mein has already become a chartbuster, but every song is memorable in its own right. Ultimately, Param Sundari is not just a film but a feeling — a reminder of what it’s like to fall in love, messily and beautifully, in a world obsessed with perfection and data. Whether you’re single, swiping endlessly, or happily paired, this film will touch something real in you. Verdict: Honest, funny, emotional, and full of heart, Param Sundari is a modern love story with timeless charm. A must-watch.

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra Review — A Sincere Beginning for Malayalam’s First Female Superhero

Among this year’s Onam releases, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra stands out as the most ambitious — and rightly so, being Malayalam cinema’s first female superhero film. But director Dominic Arun, co-writing with Santhy Balachandran, ensures the film’s weight doesn’t rest on that milestone alone. Instead, they craft a world that blends folklore, myth, and modern struggles, anchored by the conviction that “all legends have an element of truth.” The film’s choices — from symbolic names like Sunny and Chandra to the grounding of folklore in everyday contexts — lend authenticity. The cast excels across the board: Sandy makes a chilling impression as ruthless cop Nachiyappa, while Vijayaraghavan’s narration of Chandra’s origin, paired with evocative visuals, creates one of the film’s most powerful sequences. At the centre is Kalyani Priyadarshan, bringing both strength and humanity to Chandra, a role far removed from her earlier outings. Naslen, meanwhile, delivers effortless spontaneity, elevating even the simplest lines. Cameos — often distractions in other films — are integrated thoughtfully here, though a few feel stretched. Still, their narrative arcs seem poised for bigger payoffs in upcoming installments. If the “good people” in Lokah are written with nuance and dignity, the grey characters suffer from being one-dimensional. The film also takes a while to settle, with some comedy in the first half falling flat, and the dialogues occasionally lacking a natural flow. Yet, these are minor stumbles in a film with so many strengths: Nimish Ravi’s striking cinematography, Jakes Bejoy’s soaring background score, and above all, the sincerity of its world-building. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra may not deliver instant gratification, but it lays the foundation for a Malayalam superhero universe with care, ambition, and heart. Verdict: A promising, sincere first step into uncharted cinematic territory.
