Ladakh Sees Unprecedented Road and Rail Development Since UT Status

Major Investments in Road Infrastructure Ladakh’s connectivity has expanded rapidly for both civilian and military purposes, with the central government investing ₹20,660 crore in road development since the region became a Union Territory in 2019, junior Union highways minister Harsh Malhotra stated in Leh on Sunday. Highlighting the surge in infrastructure projects, Malhotra mentioned key developments, including: Railway Expansion to Reduce Travel Time Malhotra also showcased progress on the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh railway project, which has been allocated ₹1.31 lakh crore. Once completed, it will reduce the Delhi-Leh travel time from 40 hours to just 20 hours. However, the Srinagar-Leh rail project has been put on hold but not canceled. Boost in Air Connectivity With an additional ₹640 crore earmarked for a new terminal at Leh airport, the region is also set to see improved air connectivity. Strategic Importance The minister emphasized that these projects are crucial for both civilian access and military preparedness, ensuring better infrastructure in the strategically sensitive region.

US, Ukraine, and Russia Hold Talks in Saudi Arabia for Ceasefire Negotiations

Parallel Negotiations in Riyadh US and Ukrainian officials met in Saudi Arabia on Sunday night for discussions on de-escalating the ongoing war with Russia. The meeting, described as “productive and focused,” comes as Washington pushes for a broad ceasefire by April 20, which coincides with Easter in both Western and Orthodox traditions. However, according to a Bloomberg report, the timeline could be delayed due to the significant gap between Kyiv and Moscow’s positions. Meanwhile, Russian officials were set to hold separate discussions with the US on Monday, marking the first time such parallel negotiations have taken place since the early weeks of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. US-Ukraine Talks: Calls for a Just Peace The Ukrainian delegation, led by Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, concluded their meeting with American officials late Sunday night. Umerov stated that the discussion addressed key points, including energy security, and emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to achieving a “just and lasting peace.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his stance that Russia is prolonging the war. He called for increased pressure on Moscow from Kyiv’s allies, stating, “New decisions and new pressure on Moscow are needed to bring an end to these strikes and this war.” US-Russia Talks: Cautious Optimism The US-Russia negotiations were scheduled for Monday, with Russian state media confirming Moscow’s delegation had arrived in Riyadh on Sunday. American envoy Steve Witkoff expressed optimism that progress could be made, particularly regarding a ceasefire in the Black Sea. He suggested that such an agreement could lead to a broader ceasefire. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov downplayed expectations of a swift resolution, emphasizing that negotiations were just beginning. Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected a US-Ukrainian call for an immediate 30-day ceasefire, instead proposing a halt in attacks only on energy facilities. Peskov warned of “difficult negotiations ahead” but acknowledged the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the US under the Trump administration. Outlook for Ceasefire While the US hopes to bridge the gap between Kyiv and Moscow through shuttle diplomacy, significant hurdles remain. Russia’s reluctance to agree to a full ceasefire and ongoing attacks on critical infrastructure complicate efforts toward de-escalation. The coming days will determine whether these parallel negotiations can lead to meaningful progress in ending the three-year-long war.

Punjab Govt Clarifies Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s Hospitalisation, Assures Family Access

The Punjab government has informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal is not in police custody but has been admitted to Park Hospital in Patiala based on his own preference. The state clarified that Dallewal, a prominent figure in the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), chose hospitalisation considering his health condition and is free to leave at his discretion. The clarification came in response to a habeas corpus petition filed in the high court, which alleged Dallewal’s unlawful detention. The petitioner, Gurmukh Singh from Hoshiarpur, sought court intervention to ensure the safety of Dallewal and other missing farmer leaders. During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel raised concerns that Dallewal’s family members were being restricted from visiting him at the hospital. In response, the Punjab government assured the court that there were no objections to family visits and that the state was overseeing his medical care as per Supreme Court directives. Following these submissions, Justice Manish Batra directed the state authorities to facilitate meetings between Dallewal and his family at the hospital, ensuring there were no obstructions from either the government or hospital administration. However, all visits must adhere to hospital protocols. The high court has scheduled the next hearing for March 26, where further deliberations on the matter will take place. Kunal Kamra’s Standup Sparks Controversy, Shiv Sena Workers Vandalize Comedy Club

Comedian Kunal Kamra’s recent standup act, Naya Bharat, has triggered a political storm, leading to severe backlash from Shiv Sena workers. Kamra, in his performance, allegedly took a dig at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, referring to the ongoing political shifts within the state. After a video clip of his act went viral on social media, a group of Shiv Sena workers vandalized the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar area, where Kamra had performed. Habitat Comedy Club Targeted Following the incident, the Habitat Comedy Club issued a statement condemning the violence and affirming its stance as a neutral platform for artists. “We urge constructive conversations, not destruction, to address disagreements. We do not support hate or harm of any kind,” the statement read. The club also clarified that they were not involved in the content of any performer’s act but have repeatedly been targeted due to controversial performances. The Club Decides to Shut Down In response to the violent attack, the Habitat Comedy Club announced its temporary closure. “We are shocked, worried, and extremely broken by the recent acts of vandalism targeting us,” the venue stated. The club also expressed concern over being unfairly held accountable for artists’ opinions and emphasized that their role is limited to providing a platform for free expression. “We are shutting down until we figure out the best way to ensure freedom of expression without putting ourselves and our property in jeopardy,” the statement added. Political Reactions and Police Complaint The controversy intensified after Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed a police complaint against Kamra. In the viral two-minute video, Kamra used the term gaddar (traitor) while referring to Maharashtra’s political landscape and mocked both the ruling Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske issued a warning to Kamra, claiming that party workers would chase him across the country. “You will be forced to flee India,” he said in a video message. He also alleged that Kamra had been paid by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray to target Shinde. MLA Murji Patel further declared that he would “show Kamra his level” and demanded an apology from the comedian. Opposition Voices Support for Kamra In contrast, leaders from the rival Shiv Sena (UBT) faction supported Kamra. MP Sanjay Raut shared the video on social media, captioning it Kunal Ka Kamal. Aaditya Thackeray also condemned the vandalism, calling it a “cowardly” act. “Only an insecure coward would react to a song by someone,” Thackeray posted on X, questioning the state’s law and order situation. Ongoing Investigation Mumbai police have confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding the complaints filed against Kamra. Meanwhile, the Habitat Comedy Club remains shut as it evaluates its next steps in the wake of the controversy.

Mohammed Siraj and Mahira Sharma Deny Dating Rumors

Speculation surrounding a romantic relationship between Indian cricketer Mohammed Siraj and actress Mahira Sharma has finally been addressed by both celebrities. On Friday, Mahira took to her Instagram stories to put an end to the rumors. She wrote, “Stop spreading rumours, I’m not dating anyone.” Her statement came amidst growing chatter about her alleged relationship with Siraj. Shortly before Mahira’s post, Siraj had also denied the rumors through his Instagram account. His statement read, “I request paparazzi to stop asking questions around me. It is completely untrue and baseless. I hope this ends.” However, the cricketer later deleted his post, further fueling speculation. The rumors gained momentum after Mahira attended an event in Mumbai on March 20, where paparazzi playfully questioned her about her IPL team preference. In a viral video, photographers could be heard asking, “Kal se IPL start ho raha hai. Mahira ji kiske side ho aap? Kaunse team ko support kar rahe ho? Aapke favourite team?” (From tomorrow, IPL is starting. Whose side are you on? Which team are you supporting? Which is your favorite team?). Reports of their alleged romance had been circulating for months. ETimes previously claimed that the duo was “romantically involved,” citing sources who suggested that Siraj and Mahira had been quietly getting to know each other over recent months. The dating speculation initially started when fans noticed Siraj liking one of Mahira’s Instagram posts. This was followed by both of them following each other on social media, leading to widespread fan theories about a possible relationship. However, with both Siraj and Mahira now categorically denying the rumors, it seems the speculation may finally be put to rest.
