Vijayadashami Celebrated in Farrukhabad

The festival of Vijayadashami was celebrated with great fervor in Farrukhabad on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The event, jointly organized by the Shri Ramlila Mandal Farrukhabad and Saraswati Bhavan, took place at the grounds of Christian Inter College.

Following the symbolic defeat of Ravana by Lord Rama, effigies of Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhakarna were set ablaze. The entire ground resonated with chants of 'Jai Shri Ram,' and colorful fireworks captivated the audience.

Participation of Dignitaries

In accordance with tradition, District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lathar, Superintendent of Police Aarti Singh, and Mandal Patron Dr. Mithilesh Agarwal participated in the event by shooting arrows during the effigy burning ceremony.

Prior to the main event, a grand procession was taken out from Saraswati Bhavan, traversing the city's main routes to reach the venue.

Instances of Disorder

Despite the overall peaceful atmosphere, some instances of disorganization were observed. There were several heated arguments and scuffles between the police and members of the Ramlila Mandal regarding entry into barricaded areas.

City Magistrate and CO City, Abhay Verma, intervened and managed the situation effectively, given its seriousness.

Post-Effigy Burning Altercation

Following the completion of the effigy burning, police intervention quickly diffused a physical altercation that erupted between two groups over the retrieval of burnt wood. Several prominent citizens and officials from the city were present, including Mandal President Lalji Tandon, Minister Deepak Saxena, Treasurer Ashok Garg, and Manager Matar Lal Dubey.

The event concluded successfully due to the proactive involvement of the administration.
