INDIA Bloc's Protest for CEC Resignation Enters Third Day

The protest by the Congress and the INDIA alliance, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, continued for the third consecutive day on Thursday. Following a lunch meeting with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other INDIA alliance MPs departed by bus for Raj Ghat.

This ongoing opposition stems from concerns raised about the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The primary demand of the opposition leaders is the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Opposition Calls for 'Black Day' Protest Nationwide

The Congress has called for the nationwide observance of this protest as a 'Black Day' on Thursday. In Delhi, as part of the third day of the protest program, opposition MPs first gathered at Connaught Place and then proceeded towards Raj Ghat after lunch. MPs from various INDIA alliance parties were present with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

Previously, on Tuesday, opposition MPs attempted to march from the Parliament House towards the Election Commission office. On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and several other senior leaders were detained by the Delhi Police while heading towards Jantar Mantar.

Leaders Depart for Raj Ghat Despite Assembly Ban

Prior to Thursday's program, the Delhi Police had imposed restrictions regarding the assembly planned at Raj Ghat. Despite these restrictions, the opposition leaders proceeded with their plan to visit Raj Ghat.

Meeting with the President Scheduled Amidst Protests

Amidst the ongoing protests, President Droupadi Murmu has granted an appointment to a delegation of 10 INDIA alliance leaders for Friday. The opposition leaders plan to present issues related to the electoral process and SIR before the President during this meeting.
