Nana Patekar, an iconic figure in Hindi and Marathi cinema, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the age of 75. He breathed his last at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. The tragic news was confirmed by his son, Malhar Patekar.

The sudden demise of Nana Patekar has sent waves of grief through the Indian film industry. Reports indicate that Patekar was found unconscious at his home and was rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him for approximately 45 minutes but were unsuccessful. Preliminary medical reports suggest cardiac arrest as the cause of death.

Upon hearing the news of Nana Patekar's passing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow. Several prominent personalities from the film industry and other fields also paid tribute to the versatile artist.

Known earlier as Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar began his acting career in 1978 with the film ‘Gaman’. Over his nearly five-decade-long career, he portrayed countless memorable characters in both Hindi and Marathi cinema.

His performances in films such as ‘Parinda’, ‘Prahaar’, ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Tiranga’, ‘Agnisakshi’, ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’, ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’, ‘Natsamrat’, and ‘Welcome’ were lauded by audiences and critics alike. Patekar was not only an actor but also established himself as a writer and director, earning numerous prestigious awards, including the National Film Award.

He was also honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. His powerful dialogue delivery, distinctive voice, and unique acting style placed him among the most distinct and influential artists in Indian cinema. His passing marks the loss of a versatile and inspiring artist, whose artistic legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
