OBC Reservation Restoration Demanded: District-Level Protests Held in MP
OBC Mahasabha stages district-level protests across Madhya Pradesh demanding restoration of 27% reservation and justice for affected candidates.

OBC Mahasabha Demands Restoration of 27% Reservation
The OBC Mahasabha organized simultaneous district-level demonstrations across Madhya Pradesh on October 15, 2026. The protests aimed to demand the restoration of the 27% Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation, seek justice for candidates affected by the 13% reservation hold, and protect the constitutional rights of the OBC community.
Memoranda Submitted to Authorities
During these demonstrations, called for by the organization, memoranda were submitted to the concerned authorities. This event marked the first phase of a planned phased statewide agitation by the OBC Mahasabha.
Wide Participation in Protests
Young men and women from the OBC community, students, employees, social activists, and organization officials participated in the protests across various districts. The OBC Mahasabha stated that a recent High Court decision has brought the 27% OBC reservation issue to a critical juncture, leaving the future of thousands of candidates uncertain.
Call for Concrete Solutions Beyond Assurances
The organization emphasized that the OBC community now requires concrete constitutional and legal solutions, not just assurances. They stressed the need for quantifiable data and a new ordinance.
Government Urged to Study Court Decisions and Gather Data
Forcefully raising their demands, the OBC Mahasabha urged the Madhya Pradesh government to seriously study the constitutional and legal questions raised in the High Court's decision. To implement the 27% OBC reservation, the government needs to conduct a scientific survey of relevant social, educational, and other data to prepare sufficient and reliable 'quantifiable data'.
Proposal for Expert Committee and New Ordinance
A proposal was made to form an expert committee or a suitable commission to gather this data. The organization clarified that a new ordinance must comply with legal standards set by the Constitution and the court to provide a strong legal basis for the reservation system and minimize future legal disputes. After completing these processes, the state government should introduce a new ordinance to implement 27% OBC reservation and make it a permanent law through legislative procedures.
Key Demands Outlined in Memoranda
- Effective and fact-based advocacy in the Supreme Court for the restoration of full 27% OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh.
- Taking necessary legal steps to obtain immediate interim relief from the Supreme Court to protect the interests of candidates affected by the 13% hold.
- Conducting a scientific survey of the social, educational, and other relevant conditions of the OBC community to collect adequate quantifiable data.
- Forming an expert committee or suitable commission, completing the necessary legal and constitutional procedures, and introducing a new ordinance for 27% OBC reservation, which should then be made a permanent law.
- Taking immediate necessary steps to fill pending backlog positions for the OBC community and ensure the future of affected candidates.
Next Phase: Divisional Protests and Grand Rally in Bhopal
Shri Lokendra Gurjar, a national core committee member of the OBC Mahasabha, announced that the first phase of the agitation, including demonstrations and memorandum submissions in all districts, was successfully completed. He declared the second phase, which will involve extensive demonstrations and memorandum submissions in all divisional headquarters of Madhya Pradesh on October 28, 2026.
Massive Public Movement Planned for Bhopal
Following the divisional protests, a grand public movement is scheduled to take place in the state capital, Bhopal, in November. The aim is to gather participation from millions of people from across the state. The exact date for this major event will be announced soon.
“The issue of 27% OBC reservation is not just about reservation; it is connected to the future of millions of youth, social justice, and constitutional rights. The OBC community has been waiting for justice for years. We no longer trust any government assurances. The government must deliver concrete results,” stated Shri Gurjar.
“Our clear demand is that the government should rectify the legal deficiencies identified in the High Court’s decision, gather sufficient quantifiable data through an expert committee or commission, and bring a new ordinance for 27% OBC reservation after completing the constitutional process. Additionally, it must strongly advocate in the Supreme Court to provide relief to candidates affected by the 13% hold,” he further clarified.
“Today, the movement has begun at the district level. On October 28, it will be at the divisional level, and in November, a massive movement will be held in the capital, Bhopal. Until concrete constitutional and legal solutions are found for the restoration of 27% OBC reservation, our struggle will continue peacefully and democratically,” Shri Gurjar added.
OBC Mahasabha's Commitment
He expressed gratitude to the officials, youth, students, and social organizations in all districts for making the first phase of the movement successful. The OBC Mahasabha reiterated its resolve to continue its struggle from the streets to the Supreme Court for the restoration of 27% OBC reservation, justice for candidates affected by the 13% hold, and to ensure a strong legal framework through a new ordinance. The organization's slogan is, “No more assurances, we need an ordinance and rights. The struggle will continue until 27% OBC reservation is restored.”
